Your now-regular reminder that no tax cut has ever paid for itself. Ever

I wrote this four days ago. Today, they arrested the NYC Comptroller.

In the spring of 2008, I feared America was on the verge of war with Iran — and, believing that it’s good style to get to know people before you bomb them, I made “Rick Steves’ Iran,” a one-hour special that could (and would) only debut on PBS. Sadly, this special has become pertinent again today.

The political assassin in MN appears to be a Christian nationalist & an adherent of the New Apostolic Reformation (w/ which Mike Johnson is also aligned). Christian nationalism is a heresy & one of the gravest threats to our nation. Here's a survey on it from @prri.org. prri.org/research/a-c...

*So* thankful that everyone in DC stayed home—this was the absolute correct call, both for everyone's safety and to piss off Orange Mussolini the most.

Folks it doesn't even *look* like a parade is supposed to look Like whoever planned this has never seen a parade

“When they slaughtered Congress, we didn't wake up. When they blamed terrorists and suspended the constitution, we didn't wake up then, either. Nothing changes instantaneously. In a gradually heating bathtub, you'd be boiled to death before you knew it.” —Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale

No kings.

A bit proud of this one- reflecting on what it means to be the PC(USA) in times of change with input from experiences with the Church of Scotland. pcusa.org/news-storyte...

I guarantee you that these 700 Marines being deployed have very little training or experience in "crowd control" or whatever your preferred term for it. Maybe they'll be used specifically for road checkpoints. Maybe not. Regardless, they're not trained for engaging with massive civilian crowds.

Our US Civil War 2.0 correspondent has been shot by a non-lethal round.

And goodness does this fit with “the ground of all being”

👏👏👏

The President of the United States is advocating for arresting the duly-elected Governor of California for his SPEECH He thereafter admitted that the Governor of California had committed NO CRIME—but he still wants him arrested Spend as much time as you need processing what that means for America

If you're a Marine or other service member being mobilized to Los Angeles and you'd like to apply for conscientious objector status, call the GI Rights Hotline to get some guidance on your options: 1-877-447-4487

COLE. FREAKING. ESCOLA.

In case the Tonys didn’t reveal it to you… There are many women and people of color who are absolutely stunning directors. Signed, someone who when she wanted to pursue directing as her focus in theatre was told “it’s not going to be easy. People won’t want to make space for you. Take it.”

Just a casual drop of the Ivy League grad 😂

lol. “Broadway’s most financially lucrative year ever.” Cue the tears from those without funds to travel and buy tickets, who are being kept from proshots…

I mean, I get how the catfight jokes are insulting to men steeped in the patriarchy. But maybe we can just acknowledge the men fighting on twitter is peak conservative men on twitter. Not reflective of some feminine way of being…

I'm just glad one of these men has the nuclear codes and the other has all our personal data.

Supposedly Louisville’s air quality is just at moderate levels today. But I can literally see the smog…

Oh. The guy who made The Chosen is the son of one of the Left Behind authors. That makes a lot of sense.

i think it should be a bigger story that the president held a meeting with a foreign head of state where he ranted about the most gutter white supremacist propaganda you can find on the internet

Budget bills should require more than a simple majority.

HASSAN: What is habeas corpus? NOEM: Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country HASSAN: That's incorrect

covid threw into high relief how many working class people are absolutely necessary to keeping society functional, and rather than that sparking a renewed commitment to an economy that rewards such workers, we've seen an elite backlash against even modest increases in their market power

Observations that I can’t help but consider in my job: Every church event I have every attended devolves into coughs after 3 days.

Me at the CofS GA after hearing more than once “it is inappropriate to accept a financial policy suggestion that has emerged on the floor of the assembly.”

As I am experiencing a General Assembly from an international partner church, I can’t help but hear a few themes that are familiar and come to some conclusions… 1) We do not have the kind of financial resources we used to. And frankly, very few individuals do as well. This means we cannot 1/

In Edinburgh and, as an American from the land of Big Gulps, I’ve been frustrated at the small sizes of beverages- except for the beers I’ve ordered. I suppose that’s priorities for ya.

Watching Rock-a-doodle with the kid…the question is if this is as delightfully odd as I remember it (bless Don Bluth forever) and if that holds up…

maybe I’m Catholic now?

The best part of this is: Instantly the most famous American in the world is the new pope

It was always performative outrage.
