What about Agadoo

Definitely Zack - though if I understand correctly, if Zack is elected then only a joint ticket would be accepted for deputy leader, and they cannot all be of the same gender. I’m not really sure what happens then.

I think I have seen that before, and I’m pretty sure it’s resurfaced in my memory having seen this code smell in the wild now. I pine for codebases that I’ve worked with in the past that made better use of pure functions and composition.

I feel like opportunities for making better choices for dependency injection and modularity have been lost because you can slap a jest.mock() on it and call it a day. It encourages developers to think in terms of files and functions, instead of components and interfaces.
comment in response to post
I often see unit test files with a handful of calls to jest.mock() without a mock implementation supplied. Do you really want mocking to be a case of “Jesus, take the wheel?”

Yep 👍

Having read your thread, and others’ replies to it, I think I’ve misunderstood slightly: You’re saying that there is a legitimate need for the prominence of a story to reflect its importance, that a lot of users value that, and that some newspapers are undeserving them? If so, I agree 🙂

To simplify what I said: “trans people feel the media doesn’t proportionately reflect stories about them”. I suspect people who care about the No Kings protests feel the same way.

The first paragraph or the second?

Even though I know this is technically true, I think it’s also true that the media doesn’t work the way most people expect. That’s still a problem. Protests are covered disproportionately by the media in the way that five terfs protesting get headlines, and 50,000 trans people protesting get none.

It’s a software packaging and distribution tool, similar to Apt or Homebrew. You can use it to install other tools and software on your system. The thing that makes it different is that it’s built on top of containerisation (like Docker or virtual machines).

I’m extremely frustrated with @translucent.org.uk for failing to engage with those concerns. We need unity now more than ever.

I’m getting adverts every 20 minutes or so on their desktop website. Pretty sure I’m not getting them that frequently on the PS5 app.

Hmm, I just got up to do some housework 😅

I can highly recommend switching to ambient, and listening to Radio Le Mans on another device. They don’t take breaks, and they have the best pundits and analysis. radiolemans.co

That really sucks. When I’ve seen them support streaming and broadcast TV in the past, they stopped commentating during the ad breaks, and left ambient noise on streaming. I think they’re prioritising streams now.

When I was watching Eurosport last year, the adverts were, frankly, tanking the mick

I’ve not seen any so far

Physical media has given me so much joy over the past year. It’s nice to just give myself a day off and cycle up to Record Collector in Sheffield and buy an armful of second-hand CDs for £20.

You can plug anything into it and it sounds amazing. Really good if you just want to play CDs using a £50 PlayStation from eBay 🙂

The company that make them have just announced a new model: youtu.be/6e-k9I94JLs

It’s a MiSTer Multisystem. It’s a retro multi-system games console. It uses an FPGA chip, which is an alternative way of running old games to using emulators. FPGAs recreate systems at the hardware level, which makes them very accurate to the original console 🙂

I think I need to dust, tbh 😜

What do you mean bring them back. They never left my house 😎

You’ve done the tech equivalent of “I asked my mate Dave and he said it was okay”. Unless it comes from a legal professional it’s just meaningless guff.

I think that’s far too charitable to Hinsliff. If you’re going to write an article about the future of trans activism, but you don’t speak to any trans people, you haven’t done your job as a journalist.

This. An LLM cannot think. It strings together language so that it “looks” right, statistically.
comment in response to post
For the love of god, don’t take legal advice from an LLM.
