“What was THAT?” - Charlie, about a “beep beep” noise from a trash truck #academiccats #skycats

This was the wrap up I didn’t know I needed. 11/10 good job keeping us safe despite our best efforts to explode ourselves

My cat is basically my remaining coping skill. And he causes a lot of chaos so tbh not sure he counts as coping. #catsofBluesky #academiccats

The government is going to get shut down because this oligarch dipshit believes blatant lies from the dumbest person on Twitter.

One of the things I am most grateful for in my work life is how genuinely respectful everyone on my team is of boundaries. It’s expected that when you’re on lunch, you are on lunch and NOT responding to pings. When you’re off, you’re off, and my team models it. That should be the norm everywhere.

Scout heard about the orcas using salmon as hats and was jealous that the trend started without him. He also doesn’t know what a salmon actually IS but he is committed to fashion. So he got creative with this artful hay fascinator that may inspire a wave of copycats within equine society.

Friends (and enemies? Not that I really have any. Other than my nemesis in Finance) HOW do you handle a cross country move? I am getting overwhelmed and will happily take any and all tips and suggestions

I know Bluesky is really here because my favorite cousin has finally joined 🤩 welcome @trochabeardall.bsky.social

Man I cannot endorse this abstract more

I broke my leg *in my doctor’s office* two hours after defending my dissertation. (For the medical nerds, it was a medial malleolus avulsion fracture and a gnarly lateral ligament sprain)

Seeing a sea turtle GLOW after building her nest and laying her eggs remains one of the coolest things I have ever experienced. Nature is incredible

I really love how kind and engaging people are here. So many neat conversations happening. Shoutout to @drcompton.bsky.social for getting me back in this space and shoutout to the blocking features. I missed having a place to share research AND advocacy AND fun things #sociologysky #academiccats

I want the ability to bookmark posts but in the meantime I guess reposting (reskeeting?) will have to suffice

If you want people to stay and do good work, then creating a culture that does not tolerate harassment needs to be prioritized. It’s not hard to see the connection between feeling safe and performing well. The challenge(s) is changing ingrained cultural norms that tacitly allow ongoing harassment

1a. I don’t know how much of my work work I can share, but I work on testing economic surveys 1b. for academic work, how higher ed honors programs essentially work as a tracking mechanism 2. the demographic cliff and how it’s (not?) impacting HE responses to Covid, Palestine, or election results

My great-grandmother was one of the first women in her small town to work outside the home. Her husband decided to do medical school in his 40s, and to support the family she got a job at the small town post office. She supported her family on that salary while he went to school.

This (finally) arrived today. PhDone for real for real for reals #academicsky #sociologysky

I am Sports-adjacent at best but I will be thrilled when Gritty shows up here. I am not a Philly sports team person, and I can’t claim any particular connection to the city (beyond loving it the times I’ve visited) I just really unironically love Gritty

OKAY by special request, here comes the encore performance of How Hans Christian Andersen Was a Bisexual Disaster.

I love the internet sometimes

Reposting to amplify @jessicacalarco.bsky.social ’s Field Guide is an incredibly helpful resource for students and can confirm that a @bskybymidge.bsky.social giveaway will make your day (the motivational card she sent still lives on my fridge). Sometimes the internet is a good place.

#proofofcat some assembly possibly required but Charlie is here to welcome all the new friends
