One of the best pieces of advice a senior executive gave to we juniors was never use your sick days when you're sick. Save them for days that it's sunny & beautiful outside. Always passed that on & it makes such a difference in your people's perspective

PALS uses horse assisted therapeutic activities for clients with physical disabilities, in substance abuse recovery, foster youth, veterans, and more. It’s a truly special place that I’ve been involved with for seven years and love witnessing the magic of human-horse connection palstherapy.org

If the rest of her family eats gluten then that sounds like you’ve got a great strategy! A lot of GF flours/mixes tend to be dry or bake a few minutes faster than gluten versions. Otherwise I don’t really have other helpful tips. I’m sure she appreciates the effort to include her 💛

That is incredibly helpful thank you!!! 🤯🙌

Do you know if the person you’re making it for is gluten intolerant or celiac? Unfortunately cross-contact is pretty likely for someone baking in a non GF space and depending on why they are GF they may not be able to eat it, despite the lovely impulse to be inclusive (Source- I have celiac)

I’d love to be included! One of my research interests is youth mental health, particularly LGBTQ+ kids ☺️

It’s like if they listened to sociologists things would make more sense 🙃

Do research and use my degree in my current job, though, so I’m happy my career plan shifted. Here’s a bonus Charlie. He is indeed very himbo I’m so glad to start interacting with more people over here!! Thanks for starting the introduction thread ☺️ 2/2

Oh of course my bad! My grad program (and the reason I went there) primarily focuses on training people to be professors. I wanted to be a sociology professor. But then I didn’t get an academic job, so the “in-group” term for that is alt-ac, as I got an alternative to academia job. I still get to 1/

Census! I get to do qual work and feel like I won a lottery to get to keep doing interviews (my diss was 116!). I work on survey review, cognitive testing, respondent feedback, and starting to learn usability. I’m moving to DC soon and the timing is… something 😬

I went in to study once. I lasted about an hour. The lack of windows was TOO MUCH

I’m Katie! I got my PhD in sociology and work alt-ac, but am interested in education, organizations, mental health, and inequality. More importantly, this is Charlie! He is very sweet and doesn’t really have thoughts, just occasional tumbleweeds. I’m so glad things are picking up here

I didn’t land in the academic market and while I love my job and feel really lucky to have landed where I did, I miss doing the type of sociology I spent 8 years thinking I would do. I’m so glad to see this space starting to grow.

I love this so much and am so excited to learn and engage with more sociologists! I really missed the online academic community. Thanks for working to create a new one with such beautiful and purposive intentionality

And to make up for that, it’s not a cute puppy but I hope this is an acceptable substitute

I grew up on the beach and rotting sea turtle, shark, and “thing” (unidentifiable blob) are all preventively olfactorily etched in my memory 🤢
