Long hot commie summer sounds like a plan.

It sounds like it would be a very useful thing to read for many of us right now.

One of my gigs is editing hiking books, and I tell my friends that a huge part of my job is getting the directions right so that no one steps off a mountain. So this is a big bag of yikes.

I worked at the House of SF before I moved to Toronto. A very sad day.

I didn’t know about Morris, and just listened to an NPR interview with him around that time. Wow! Love the pivot from Texas to Wagner!

Or the next house: there are a lot of tweens on this street. I do regret the lack of binoculars now.

She was probably delighted that you spoke Japanese politely! But boy do I understand that moment of panic.

I have a severe disconnect between speaking and reading, but (again) haven’t had the time to try and bridge the gap.

My husband’s relatives in Japan mostly speak no English, and it’s frustrating asking him to translate for me all the time. Thai is hard because I have been learning from Thai speakers. So it’s all conversational, and I can’t read Thai (very complicated, but not as complicated as Japanese). 2/3

Japanese. It’s the levels of politeness that cause me grief, and calculating social position relative to the person I am speaking with. That and particles: I am frequently using the wrong particle for direction and for receiving and giving actions. I haven’t been able to study and I need to. 1/?

Wanda’s Pie in the Sky, in Kensington, has amazing pie (natch) plus vegetarian-friendly sandwiches and soups. Bakka-Phoenix Books (on Harbord at Spadina) is where you get your science fiction/fantasy, and Little Ghosts on Dundas West is for when you want a horror novel instead.

My son has an undergrad in bioethics. A normally calm and even-tempered person, physicists committing philosophy like this send him from 0 to full rant in nanoseconds. I am sure he will “enjoy” adding this one to his list of physicists to excoriate.

And yes, it should have been 1/2, 2/2. Fatigue wins.
