Any person in uniform wearing a mask and refusing to be properly and reliably identified should be assumed to be the same kind of murderer we’ve seen in Minnesota.

there was one vote, it was for trump, and he is king of america now and you will obey

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

Watch the slow motion: it appears to me that the officers discuss the photographer and reporter before the one on the end fires on them (it looks to me like he's aiming at the camera, not the reporter, but you decide)

"When conservatives destroy these public goods, it doesn’t necessarily lead to a Democratic backlash at the ballot box, and they see this as a long-term investment in a more ignorant population reliant on sources of information they can control — a docile population that can be easily manipulated."

If a foreign government conspired to decimate US science and technology in a manner akin to what Project 2025 architects purport to do, we would go to war. Just because they are under a cloak of self declared patriotism does not mean that they are not effectively acting as enemies of the state.

Even before latest thing I've been telling people for months Joni Ernst is way more vulnerable next year than people think. Dems should be investing a lot right now laying the ground work in the state.

The US scientific enterprise is about to collapse unless we do something about it.

We’ve uncovered Asgard chromatin structures formed by a Hodarchaeal histone : closed hypernucleosome conserved in archaea and an open form resembling the H3-H4 eukaryotic octasome. Fantastic work by @harshranawat.bsky.social! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... #Chromatin #Asgard #Archaea #cryoEM

This should be bigger news: ICYMI - Project 2025’s puppet master Russell Vought just replaced Elon as head of DOGE. People still in denial & believe Trump knew nothing about Project 2025, need to explain why he just handed the keys to the whole damn thing to its architect. He is the plan. Wake up.

To be clear, if this bill passes, it will end all scientific research & medical training in the US. It will close hospitals. It will be economically devastating. Millions will lose their jobs. Call your representatives & tell them to vote fuck no on 15% IDC rates & the rest of this horror show.

Moonwalking out while leaving SO MANY careers of amazing scientists in ruin and doing irreperable damage to American science. I will. never. forgive. those responsible.

I am excited to share the latest paper from my lab where we leverage the selection bias of condensate-promoting oncofusions to uncover molecular rules governing condensate specificity and function. www.cell.com/cell/fulltex....

I am hiring for a research technician role in my new lab at UC Irvine studying how transcription factors control cell identity. If you know any graduating undergrads or postbacs looking for a position, please spread the word! Apply by May 9 for full consideration. recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF09594

This just kills me. This facility trains so many of the people who work to restore the health of the SF Bay Estuary. We will need this workforce even more than we do now as sea level rises in coming decades. This place is the seed corn. It cannot be replaced. www.kqed.org/news/1203697...

This so directly out of the Nazi playbook. The very obvious plan is to get rid of the independent accreditors and put all universities under jurisdiction of the federal government. This is how Hitler took over German academia and made it a wing of his party.

Between the gutting of the Voting Rights Act and this, which guts enforcement of the Civil Rights Act, conservatives are well on their way to reversing the key legislative victories of the Civil Rights Movement.

They are segregationist and this will be open season for discrimination. “the Attorney General shall initiate appropriate action to repeal or amend the implementing regulations for Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for all agencies to the extent they contemplate disparate-impact liability”

Perhaps not just science - I need to report this out further, but the experts I have talked to say the only way this could be legal was if the courts gutted the civil rights act. Scholars have told me this is clearly the endgame: www.npr.org/2025/03/17/n...

My father-in-law, Jack Strominger, and I wrote a letter to the @wsj.com editor about the current threats to science due to Trump's funding freeze. Please repost! www.wsj.com/opinion/scie...

NIH just posted a Notice with the new Terms and Conditions... grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

I’ve been wanting to write this for a while. So I finally did.

Just to build on this, one of the reasons the death camps were built in the occupied territories was because the Nazi command knew they were illegal under German law and the nominally-still-extant Weimar constitution

Many products sold in the U.S. are made in El Salvador. In response to the El Salvador president’s statements today, we’re calling for an immediate boycott of all Salvadoran-made goods. Please help by listing any products or brands made in El Salvador in the comments below.

This is important.

BREAKING: 36k people showed up in LA for Bernie and AOC’s rally. In the off year. Americans are pissed — and anyone ignoring that is making a big mistake.

“You can tell a lot about a country by how it treats its most vulnerable people.” Eric from Austin has muscular dystrophy and called my office to share what Medicaid cuts could mean to him. Here’s what he told me when I called him back: youtu.be/Pdw1zQhpu_M?...

i have argued before that MAGA is recapitulating antebellum pro-slavery ideas about citizenship and bodily autonomy. one thing i am also thinking about, when it comes to the rendition of people to a foreign gulag, is the way it is reminiscent of the kidnapping of free blacks for sale into slavery

Ever wondered what the lonely histone H3C110 does? We found that it’s lost in many fungi. Adding it back boosts histone H3 copper reductase activity, rescues iron defects and modulates lifespan, suggesting an evolutionary tradeoff between these effects. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

69M married women could lose their voting rights if the SAVE Act is passed. Transgender individuals too. Why? Absent a valid passport, you must present a birth certificate *with the same name as your registration* to be registered. This is insane! Hands Off Her Vote

they are segregationists, it has been obvious from the jump, and i think that pundits who dismissed the charge as hyperbolic should explain why they couldn’t see the fact pattern
