There are at least ten swifts above the garden this evening (which almost certainly aren’t all captured in this photo), so that’s been a pretty good year for them.

The Herds progressing through Stratford.

Impressed by the V&A East Storehouse in Stratford. All sorts of things on show from a Frank Lloyd Wright office interior to Keith Moon’s drums. Bowie artefacts coming in Sept.

@kennysutcliffe.bsky.social Worth carving some time out next time you’re In Stratford! 20 minute walk from the office.

@dusty501.bsky.social At the V and A Storehouse.

Pleased I’ve finally found a reason to mention llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoc, a place I was somewhat obsessed by as a child.

Also visited the beautifully air-conditioned Higgins Art Gallery in Bedford. One room had three Turners on display and no-one else in it. ‘A First Rate Taking in Stores’ is just magnificent.

Finally visited The Panacea Society Museum in Bedford. The Society had prepared the house and gardens for Jesus’ Second Coming. The trustees still hold, somewhere, Joanna Southcott’s Box of Prophecies, sealed since 1814, awaiting the Church to provide the 24 bishops needed to open it.

This article on autonomous drone warfare is very scary. AI powered drones are already being used by Ukraine. ‘All those airport checks are completely useless. You can just wait outside with the drone… you can fly into the airport 100 drones, 1000 drones in automatic mode’

Good to see the Aristophanes stans out for Sondheim’s version of The Frogs at Southwark Playhouse tonight. A strange piece as you might expect, but not unenjoyable. First performed in the Yale swimming pool in 1974 with Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver in the supporting cast.

A frisky black squirrel is annoying four jackdaws in the back garden.

I think AI is going to eventually tank in the longterm, but... the only real way to combat this is single-interest communities. Forums, user comms, etc, with a barrier to entry. They become trustable knowledgebases. It's really the only way forward is to return to what worked best the first time

I think we can all agree as we approach this blessed day that Daniel Hannan was a fucking psychic and not an execrable piece of idiotic garbage living in a fantasy world stoked by reality-challenged British nationalists.

Another terrific win for the England Test team.

Alarming description in The Observer of a Puffin Club outing to Lundy Island in the 60s or 70s. I took this trip in 2022 and was violently sick, so can only imagine the scenes.

Finished a rewatch, for the first time since broadcast in 1971, of the BBC Drama, In Search of the Nile. Although not quite at the level of producer Christopher Ralling’s later The Voyage of Charles Darwin (1978) this is still a fine achievement, shot mostly on location and with a superb cast.

Zulu.

The old Sheffield Wheat factory in Welwyn Garden City, now up for redevelopment as The Wheat Quarter.
