-Spot on.Excellent thread from @robertsaunders.bsky.social. Disgraceful language.Politically suicidal and cowardly emulation of Farage. Wrong not to make the case for migration &Dishonest with voters: who is to pay for social care & universities if we reduce migration ?

Labour's immigration announcement today is a reflection of the paucity of honest debate by BOTH political parties over the last decade on this issue. Labour has never made a counter-argument, or been honest about economic cost of immigration curbs, so it's stuck making Tory/Reform arguments 1/n

And politically stupid, too. Alienates core vote (& they do have places to go) in pursuit of votes he'll rarely get, & demolishes his core policy agenda of growth, making his re-election more unlikely. Even those (inc. me) willing to cut him a lot of slack feel betrayed. A truly awful day for UK.

Europe/ US electrification (de-carbonisation) vs China shows how we will be left behind if we dont stick to #netzero

The vast fire on #Dartmoor should alert us to the ecological disaster there. This should not be a fire-prone landscape. Were it not for the elimination of trees by grazing, the vegetation type on the high moor would be temperate rainforest, which is extremely hard to burn. But only specks remain.

Nice thread on the old Ouse Bridge in York

Delightful film about a 1300year old inn in Japan in 718 AD, operated by the same family for 46 consecutive generations.

The total net investment needed for net zero—and a more prosperous future—is just 40% of the £795B wealth of Britain’s billionaires. Just saying.

Heartily agree 👇

If, like 80s me, you saw the Habitat catalogue as a kind of manual for an imagined future, you will love this.

Good essay on Curzio Malaparte's Casa Come Me.

A lovely thread on the guy who built a 90 ft model of the Titanic in his back garden

A long thread …

On Norway “Less US means more EU”

The reports of European visitors having their phones searched at the border and turned away if they've criticised Trump in private messages has already had an impact on US tourism. Keep in mind most people book these trips way in advance. This is just the start. www.ft.com/content/6dc1...

@themodernhouse.bsky.social Ripe for refurbishment…

This is really exciting. There'll be lots of objections, of course. But the ambition of it is thrilling. Basically using European rearmament to try and turn the euro into a global reserve currency.

I hope @york.ac.uk dont Demolish this lovely mid 1960‘s house

I love the photographs posted by @babelcolour.bsky.social - this which have the immediacy of an iPhone instagram post but on second glance you realise its a vivid scene from 111 years ago in WW1

Great article by @arusbridger.bsky.social - when are the powerful and wealthy going to stand up and be counted?

We’ll be ok here in New York !

This needs to move urgently from the "considering" to "doing" category. We've just watched the world's richest man handing out cheques for $1 million in an attempt to buy an election. UK campaign finance laws are decades out of date. That leaves our democracy dangerously open to plutocratic attack

Very good thread👇 from @robertsaunders.bsky.social on authoritarian democracy , an apparent tautology, but which needs urgent recognition
