Tip for PhD applicants reaching out to prospective advisors: Don’t use an LLM to write these emails. It’s not a great first impression to express your admiration for a recent paper the faculty member published if that paper does not exist.

this is a day for those of us who have spent the last six months terminally online. this is for us and honestly, we deserve it.

So in a nutshell …

I can't wait to get my hands on this one - it sounds amazing! 📚💙

bsky right now.

once again I must tap my own sign

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away

The ALP needs to focus on the "powerless" aspect of the LNP. The LNP literally do not matter. Change the fricken country and leave them withering. Stop feeling like you need to ask the LNP's (or media's) permission to change things.

63% of American adults had unfavorable views of Martin Luther King Jr in August 1966, per Gallup surveys 46% of Mississippi GOP voters said interracial marriage should be illegal in a 2011 PPP poll to push w/e is popular instead of trying to popularize justice is to admit you lack moral leadership

The worst thing about this is that you'd be hard pressed to find a woman that is surprised by the result. Because we've all either experienced it or supported friends/family through it.

This is genuinely horrifying on multiple levels.

They're literally doing the meme

Of all the many reasons why *nobody* should be a billionaire, this one maddens me today: Rowling using her wealth straightforwardly to fund bigotry. She shouldn’t have this much power, paying to institutionalize extremist ideology.

Can't believe this was only about a month ago. What a time.

Nice that, for once at least, Australians are choosing to be on the right side of history.

Imagine a world in which that $100 million instead went to the health and social services that keep people out of prison.

every company from june 1st until june 30th

I have four books that I want to read really desperately, all sitting on my side table, ready. Yet because there are four, I can't decide which to read. It literally feels impossible to just pick one up off the pile. So here I am, on my phone instead. Sigh. 💙📚

"There is a price to pay for standing up to genocide apologists, bad faith actors & governments who censor us for speaking up against mass atrocities. In so-called Australia that price is not as harsh as the price that Palestinian children, women & men are paying. So, if you can, pay the price."

Just upgraded to a new version of Acrobat, and... look. I am reading a friend's NOVEL. Something I WANT to read. For ENJOYMENT. Fuck off into the sun and take your designer with you.

Overheard at work: Student 1: Of course Socrates isn’t real, do you think anyone would talk to Plato? Student 2: Low-key, I feel that way about Saint Augustine. He HAD to be close with God because he was like, a weird homeschool kid.

Book tour starts next week! All the details at jennifermills.net.au/events

I got two new Sarah Moss books in the mail yesterday (I don't know how I missed that she released a memoir last year!) and I am completely stuck because I want to read them both *immediately* and have found myself reading a few pages of each back and forth and that is a terrible way to read! 📚💙

Nothing he described here is anything other than... Having a job? That you chose to commit to and so now get to do? I also work from 7:30am to 6pm quite often in the job that I chose, should I go on TV show and cry about it? These people can't do anything it seems, without feeling like victims

How much coal would the French have to find under the Louvre to destroy it? How much gas would the UK need to find under Stonehenge to knock it down? Australia must be the richest country in the world willing to destroy its ancient heritage for one more gas project #climate

This is beautful. And so simple. Queer people are scared. This is all you have to do as a cis het person to help take some of that fear away.

I just C'mon The tool that gives you like 50-100 words when you're stuck is inside your skull!!!! Or maybe weed! Or a nice walk! Or literally anything else!

Evasion of peer review is a hallmark of pseudoscience. But even more insidious is the obviation of scientific scrutiny by publishing in pseudoscientific journals that exist to provide an illusion of scientific legitimacy. There’s nothing new about MAHA’s propaganda tactics.

Pretty wild to be living in a time when humans are being forced to work in order to even be considered deserving of life or even to be considered human at all, while simultaneously human labor is being systematically eliminated from the concept of work.

How do these people function day to day with the incredibly irrational fear of other humans they seem to have? All they talk about is insane asylums and violent criminals like they're living in a horror movie. Have they been outside and seen the sun and smelt freshly cut grass?

been saying this for like 3 years now, the core constituency of the "manosphere" is not Gen Z or teenage boys, it is 35-55 year old dudes who wish they were still teenage boys

It is the year 2452. In the aftermath of a devastating war with the sinister alien intelligence known only as The Frequency, most remaining humans have sought sanctuary on the asteroid Ceres. Only a handful remain on Earth, and here are five things they learned today in the Leongatha mushroom trial:

If the left was actively hating young white men, I feel like that's something I would have picked up on in the last twenty years or so. What I have seen though is a lot of (non-left) people telling young white men that the left hates them
