I haven't seen Companion yet, but I found out that the movie's writer-director has exactly one other screenwriting credit—Fred 3: Camp Fred. The third film based on Lucas Cruickshank's Fred character. I'm not sure what to make of this knowledge.

I might've seen an elderly man caught in a gift card scam IRL. He wandered around a Dollar General and tried to buy his fourth (!) Google Play gift card, but the cashier refused. He'd already returned the 3 others, claiming they didn't work. Didn't realize what I was seeing until later. Poor guy.
