I opted to ditch the fries and go with a smaller version. Lesson learned from this is to make sure you have enough of the background fabric for the project. 🫣 . Probably needs a border, but I'm tucking it away for now.

So I got out the seam ripper and made a proper full red male cardinal and it looks so much better. I've done enough mental gymnastics to figure the red wing tip on the female cardinal. I'm pleased with how this piece/quilt block or eventual panel is looking.
