The capitalist’s view of success is to reap maximum benefit from minimal investment. The socialist’s view of success is to contribute a reasonable effort while sharing in the benefits of a functioning society. The progressive’s view of success is not letting 1% of people control everything.

The more time you spend doing the best you can, the less time you will spend worrying what you could have done

If you don’t have any enemies, you probably aren’t doing much

Being defined by your relationship to your enemies is a loss to those enemies

A common enemy is a unifier

Politicians and academics like to say that “America is an idea” but fundamentally American is land. The idea is that lots of different groups can live together, sharing the land and working for the common good.

You shouldn’t be put in a job because you can’t survive without it—your basic needs being met shouldn’t be in question, and having needs isn’t related to the job functions you are performing

Every moment is the result of an unimaginable number of infinitesimal things bumping into infinitesimal things across all of space and history. The outcome of all previous events with any causal link to this moment produced this moment, and there’s no reason it would be any different than it is.

I’m not really sleepy, I just don’t want to be conscious

Transparency means that when something affects your life, you have the ability to find out who makes choices and how and why. Our government and businesses are made of people who have agreed to abide by rules as part of their roles. If you have access to the rules and the people, you are more safe.

Supply and demand should be secondary to capability and need. I want to live under an economy that asks, “what is possible and how can we serve the most people?” Before considering, “how much is there and how badly do you want it?”

Now I lay me down to sleep, my mind fading into the deep; if I should die before I wake, I gotta say that sounds just great.

I think my dog needs to poo, but it’s way too cold outside, and she’s old, so the stairs are hard for her anyway, and I don’t know how to tel her it’s ok to poo on the deck, but now we’re just both stressed out and either she’s gonna get really cold or I’m gonna be cleaning poo later

Thinking about looking for a job as a janitor at a school or something, but I’m worried people will expect me to live up to the unrealistic standards set by “Good Will Hunting.” I haven’t even done any high-level math since like 2009.
