"To understand how America might escape from the clutches of oligarchy, it is worth reaching back through history, to see how the people have pushed back against the elites to achieve reform." www.liberalcurrents.com/the-history-...

No. Sometimes it was just because I had already paid for the spray tan, so might as well.

"It was the most amount of less-lethals I’ve seen used in a single day protest," said @calmatters.org reporter @sergioolmos.bsky.social, struck in the chest with what he believes to be a 40mm sponge grenade. He's covered hundreds of days of protests in his career.

“Sometimes, historical sources hide… in stage banter, in an obscure track on a concept album, or in the cultural afterlife of an abandoned anthem for a country that never asked for one.” Bleart Thaçi on Randy Newman's fascination with Communist Albania... the first piece I've edited for Contingent!

Trump is making this into quite a spectacle now. It is a crisis he is trying very hard to manufacture. First he sent 2,000 National Guard troops, then 700 Marines, now ANOTHER 2,000 National Guard troops, most of whom are sleeping on floors. 1/

"decarbonised oil" is like saying "we don't actually kill people at our poison factory." They're talking about "decarbonising" the production and shipping of oil. A fallacy in itself, but the real point is that the core product will still be burned, heat our one and only atmosphere, and cook us.

Some ICE agents, he said, had booked rooms for the night. Others had booked hotel rooms the night before. Some agents, he said, had left, but the tires on their cars had been slashed (which is why they remained parked on the lot’s seventh level hours after checking out of AC Hotel.)

All, ABC 7 is down ATM, so here's KCAL9:

I think it would be useful to be more guerrilla in the warfare 1) to wear down the cops' morale 2) the masses of cops are unstoppable from a civilian perspective, but hitting them in one place then fleeing, then another place, then another place, then another place - cops would be too slow to react

Protestors vastly outnumber cops and troops. These tactics are incredibly useful for draining the regime and sapping its legitimacy and ability to instill fear in others.

“We’ll look back at this as a grave mistake that sacrificed decades of scientific rigor, undermined public trust, and opened the door for fringe theories rather than facts.” #MedSky #AcademicSky apnews.com/article/kenn...

The protestors marching (on minibikes & skateboards & legs) outside of my window are chill as fuck. It's the massively wasteful LAPD helicopters, the menacing bangs of police weaponry, and cop sirens that are scaring my toddler and not letting him sleep.

“This is an unmitigated public health disaster,” said Dr. Sean O’Leary, chair of the infectious disease committee for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Story by @apoorvanyt.bsky.social Gift link: nyti.ms/4mV37YK

In case you too were wondering what training Marines have for dealing with **domestic** civil unrest entailing fellow citizens. I had hoped there was more of a manual and training component on this that already existed... This is not reassuring. apnews.com/article/mari...

If you have never stuck a needle in the back of an infant and watched pus drip out please don’t tell me I am overreacting to RFK Jr.’s latest assault on science.

I have always loved this clip of Sly and the Family Stone's medley on Ed Sullivan. Simply because Ed's strait laced audience cannot resist the enthusiasm of Sly and the band. What made Sly Stone good, was not only his enthusiasm, but his energy and always thinking what was best for the greater good.

Barack Obama and his administration were central to building the infrastructure and will for the ICE violence we’re seeing today. I will not ever forgive or forget it.

Angeleno here. How many of us have shot a puppy, and then a goat, for funsies? We are better than her, and better then the regime.

👏 Here's what the NIH staffer in the video said: "So while you see 3 of us sitting here today speaking to you in our personal capacities, we are speaking on behalf of HUNDREDS of NIH staff who are standing up together to say 'WE DISSENT.' Because what is happening at NIH is so egregious.....' 1/n

On July 12, 1855, some drunk clowns got into a massive brawl with a bunch of firefighters at a Toronto brothel. By the next day, several firefighters were beaten and the circus was burned to the ground. This is the story of Toronto's Firemen And Clown Brothel Riot. 🧵1/8
