Everybody complaining about the SCOTUS decision today who didn't vote for Clinton in 16...You could have prevented this. Hope whatever principles you were standing on at the time bring you comfort now.

Very VERY excited to see this addition to the SCIMaP project. @joshuasweitz.bsky.social @asinclair.bsky.social BOTTOM LINE: Proposed NIH cuts are estimated to result in ~50b in economic losses and over 200k job losses. But hey! How are those egg prices?? scienceimpacts.org/fy26

“I personally was pretty surprised, actually, at how efficient the government was,” Sahil Lavingia told NPR's Juana Summers.

I have not been impressed with how these computation variant effect predictors compare to in vitro assays of variant effect. Making a mental note to compare this for variants I know well. 🧐

Huge news today: Big Balls Out. Also, Big Balls Out.

Journalists keep asking me, baffled, “What’s the Trump administration really trying to do to the science agencies?” So I say “They are trying to destroy them. Cut off their funding, ruin their facilities, harass their staff into leaving.” It’s not reform, and it never was. It’s destruction.

I know #ISTH2025 is nearly over, but, if you need a snack, the chilled cucumber soup with crab at Petite Cerise f’in slaps. 🦀 🤤

I’m intrigued by Arijit Biswas’s proposed model of the FVIII B domain as a flexible glycosylated coating on FVIII. Think cotton candy, not a hard shell. His data suggests the unstructured nature of the B domain could function as a soft barrier, fine tuning hemostasis. #ISTH2025 @isth.org #hemesky

Side note, but Andrew Cuomo probably wouldn't have been HUD secretary if Seattle Mayor Norm Rice hadn't gotten caught up in a scandal about how Pacific Place mall was funded.

Very interesting oral communication about comparison of an Al-Based App 🤳🩸(MEASUREmenses ™) and #PBAC for Evaluating Menstrual Bleeding. ➡️ Need to be validated on differents type of pads. #ISTH2025 #AUB #HMB @isth.org

There is more to established #thrombophilia defects in understanding the genetics of venous thromboembolism #VTE. Plenary lecture by Prof Pierre Morange #ISTH2025

Biology resists simplicity #ISTH2025 plenary session

🩸 Important findings from Dr @IMYanXu at #ISTH2025: Black individuals on extended anticoagulation for secondary VTE prevention had higher rates of major bleeding, including ICH, than White individuals. 🔎 No difference in CRNMB. 📢 Calls for action to address racial disparities.

Anette Arbjerg Højen, RN, MscN, PHD; Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark, gave an excellent talk at #ISTH2025 on how clinicians are blind to long-term sequelae suffered by patients after VTE (post-thrombotic and post-PE syndromes). The first slide summarises things.

No mother should die in childbirth but some women are more likely to. Rates of postpartum hemorrhage and maternal death are much higher in Black women. And race is a social construct so this is not biological. Racism (systemic) is the risk factor. #ISTH2025

In the US, the maternal death rate is 121.8 per 100,000 Black women compared to 24.1 per 100,000 non Black women. Race has no biological basis and this is UNACCEPTABLE. We must do better. #ISTH2025 #womenshealth

Brilliant visualization of extravascular FIX and very interesting (and surprising) differences in specific activity of extravascular FIX and FX in different tissues. 🤯 #ISTH2025 #hemesky

Huh, they finally built the FEMA detention centers they kept accusing us of building.

Pro tip: this is the best place in the entire Washington Convention Center if you need a quiet moment. (Shhhh don’t blow up my spot) #isth2025

It’s too damn hot outside so I’m going to sit here and post about my Monday at #isth2025 (🧵) @isth.org #hemesky 🩸 🧬

State-of-the-Art talk bij de Luuk Scheres Despite hormone use being the most prevalent and important risk factor for #VTE in women <50, there is huge underrepresentation of risk models and funding. Food for thought and action 💪🏼 #ISTH2025
