Trump did this last time as well when he negotiated last trade agreement, he wants a win, with Mexico he got troops at the border that have already been there & from Canada he got a border protection plans that been in works for months & would be implemented anyway. He wants to look strong.

Actually it is great strategy. 1.Those fights would be taking place anyway, on one or other side of border. If fights would take place on UA side it would be their villages burn to ground, not Russian one.
2.It's also huge blow to Putin, who can't not just take Ukraine but even secure it's own land

Maybe in next 5-10 years we will build army strong enough to face Russians on our own, but I suspect Russia will not survive that long. They got themselves into corner and they will collapse. Let's hope what will come after will be better and not worse
