Perhaps it’s important to say *this* about capitalism.

So many things worth doing are worth building up to slowly…

I still love it. (I love maps to an unhealthy degree. I also love PhD theses…though the content I experience is not usually very historical. And then my mantra on hard days is “be like water”… So much to unpack here…)

Need to condition on gender composition in the room. Possibly field. So much hinges on details of the context. I bet this swamps the gender-specific dynamics a lot of the time!

Check out the cool work at acceleration.utoronto.ca. And, kudos to @avigoldfarb.bsky.social and @aspuru.bsky.social for introducing me to this great group of scientists!

I would say "stay tuned," but a) this is gonna take "a minute" and b) it's not a lot of fun to watch the vigour with which this paper and its author are being attacked. We will be careful-with-a-capital-C, because that's just how we roll. But it's daunting to think about entering this space, now.

Another mistake would be to declare the conclusions false. There is growing research showing how AI and automation may enhance scientific discovery - it's just not in the econ journals. I recommend a Google Scholar search on "Self-Driving Labs"...

One implication of this stance will be stifling research based on restricted-access government data. It severely delayed a couple of my publications and I know of at least one paper (not mine) rejected because of knee-jerk policies like this. Do we want to draw all economic insights from Denmark?

Yeah. I’m motivated to dust off my in-progress supply chain paper. Not normal. (Not sure if excited is the right word, though….)

Origin story of my latest publication in Management Science! Oh, and another project in the works. Um, and yeah, that other new grant proposal… Hunh.

I was just thinking that this is going to be bad for Porter until they get pre-clearance at the island airport.
