Well, that was nice, getting out of the house and joining up with the radio club for Winter Field Day. I didn't play radio, but I talked with some of the guys about satellite operation, digital modes on mobile devices, and how sometimes better is the enemy of good enough. 1/

Winter Field Day is this weekend, the local club isn't really participating, they're going to do a social event and have lunch. So I'll go to that with my niece in tow, then head home and start making contacts for the contesting part. Oh wait, it's not a contest!

Our Tuesday Night FLDIGI Net on 2 meters went fairly well. We had scheduled a net looking at FLAMP, but instead we helped one of the hams get his IC-9700 on the air using MT63-2000L. He's had trouble over the past few weeks, so this evening I suggested he set up his 9700 with FLRIG. That did it!

I picked up a digirig lite to use as an interface between an old Pixel 7 Pro the Yaesu FT5D. Got it working with WoAD for Winlink and Andflmsg for some digital modes. Maybe I'll have to give it a try with Robot36 for SSTV next time ARISS is running a special event.

Here's another funny quirk of the FT5D. Apparently the washer for the dial knobs was installed upside down at the factory. This would cause the volume/squelch to not be independently adjusted from the frequency/memory channel. Pulled it apart and flipped it, now it works as expected. Way to go QA!

The 2025 ARA Rally Season begins in just under a month in Atlanta, MI for Sno*Drift. Not sure if I'll make the trek up for that one, which would mean my first rally for 2025 won't be until June for SoFR. Hmmmm. 🤔
