Of course Trump is in it for Trump, my frustration is more about the condescending attitude from the so-called urbanist crowd. There is a narrative about how “liberals have lost touch with regular people” and some of it is tilting at windmills, but this is a real one and it grinds my gears.

I’ll get blocked for this, but I’m tired of hearing that everyone in NYC lives below 60th and never takes trips that aren’t well served by redundant subway lines. First it was taxi segregation, then 2020 curfews, and now this. Hard not to see it as another FU at brown people in brown neighborhoods

I believe we tried street protests a few times in recent history and all it got us was a bunch of disfigured people, criminal records, and cops/bootlickers running over and shooting people with impunity. Seems to me the strategy needs reassessment.

I know at least one well meaning highly literate liberal who could use some factual corrections on these matters after years of NYTimes propaganda

Any one-stop-shop is going to be a high value target for coercion by the regime. Shopping local and shopping small solves several problems at once, if you can sacrifice convenience and pay a bit more

Proton CEO has made some troubling statements in the last few weeks that individuals may want to keep in mind. Besides, no privacy tool should ever be unconditionally trusted. Historical reference: Crypto AG.

Respectfully, the “dems are out of touch and only campaign for the elites” is a GOP talking point to retroactively legitimize a campaign won on old fashioned bigotry and misinformation

Although not a “state”, Puerto Rico grows some decent stuff. Not quite Panama Gesha but for US grown I don’t mind it. There’s a small chain called 787 Coffee in NYC that serves only PR coffee

These people being in charge of strategy is why people don’t vote

The french aristocracy didn’t have the ability to automatically generate individual customized brainwashing filters to preemptively warp everyone’s minds without lifting a finger

More likely he and his robber baron friends will successfully scapegoat nonwhites and non cishets, and it will be those people who get murdered

I don’t like the idea of banking on the empathy of the people on the other side of the screen. The right cheers when kids take their own lives, why would they be dissuaded by kids crying?

He’s being picked so when American troops open fire on American cities they can judge the fallout and make him take the fall if republicans get squeamish

There was a midair collision at a Dallas air show a few years back that is perceived to have been caused by the air boss being incompetent. His dad was the previous air boss.
Some people say nepotism is DEI for white people but I think it's a disservice to DEI to say that, even as a joke.

right wingers have been spreading fake maga lists to get people to mass block without looking

I got added to a "transphobic accounts" list today. Probably the same troll farm that did the MAGA list in Matt's case.

Spoiler alert: the above is an advertisement that leads with some partially-not-incorrect warnings about what encryption can and can't do to protect you. Save yourself a click, it is not worth reading. I don't think Signal is a panacea but neither is whatever that other app is...

So did whites but I don’t see anyone saying let’s euthanize the whites

No, the Democrats need to show that they’re team players by agreeing to everything these people try to shove through. More civility too! That worked out great.

I had to unfollow someone yesterday because they were complaining about all the old people here. The replies here are making me feel better about myself

You have to wonder if these people ever go outside. It reminds me of the revered urbanist mass transit PhDs whose brilliant plan to improve efficiency is eliminating bus stops and removing accessibility equipment altogether

I overwhelmingly prefer city life but I don’t consider myself an “urbanist” and personally I recoil at the term. To me it conjures up an image of an arrogant libertarian frat bro on an electric scooter. More women and more POC getting involved would be welcome. But also, a new label.

You don’t need to be terminally online, just need to experience reality without the protection of a multi ton metal armor suit. Try it for a month and then see if you still think it’s funny.

Point taken but I think I wasn’t clear in my previous comment. Older people have an incentive to stay competitive in the workforce, and this includes taking advantage of the latest tools. High energy bills are unwelcome, but most people would pick that over losing their job

Older people are also not likely to make a career change when a bunch of gen Z armed with vyvanse and LLMs come gunning for their job. Dismissing these tools as for “funny dog pics” reminds me of how people used to talk about the internet as an irrelevant diversion and not a major source of jobs

I need a computer to keep me fed, housed, and health insured. That’s what “work” means for most people I know. It’s not ideal, so if you’re offering me an ethically pure career option that meets your high standards I’m open to negotiating
