Trump focussing on tangible outcomes of deporting a “criminal,” banning boys in girls sports, punishing elite universities, media and science itself, and targeting the “enemies” they too hate is working. Calling it authoritarian is meaningless when so many Americans don’t understand what that means.

Too most Americans principles, intellectual concepts and foundational values like rule of law, due process and separation of powers are too complex, inaccessible.

Kinda close.

Canada here. The vibe here is it would be dangerous to travel to the US. We all have shit posts about Trump on our phones be it seems that’s enough to disappear you into a detention facility.

Kids die of measles and their parents still deny vaccines. In February 1945, with the Soviets advancing and thousands of bombers had flattened German cities, the people were starving, terrorized and completely defeated. They adored Hitler and were convinced of victory and vindication. So, a lot.

One of the 8 stages of genocide right there.

How many administrators in Ontario? Or was it a national conference? $38 000 doesn’t immediately seem out of step for the cost of a large conference.
comment in response to post
What point are you trying to make? Professionals go to conferences and it costs money. Do you get upset at corporate price gouging or CEO compensation? That is paid for by consumers dollars.

In Canada, like the US, it’s the choice between corporatism and an oligarchy. We are forced to choose the corporatist.

Wages and cost of living in the US compared to China, Bangladesh or Vietnam prevent US manufacturing from returning to 1950’s levels.

Just make it easier for municipalities to get approval to build. Low interest mortgages for first time buyers or end to own. Get rid of short term rentals. Build build build.

It’s almost like they already know the Supreme Court will rule for Trump.
comment in response to post
So if the US is there. Take to the streets. A Supreme Court ruling for trump is the flashpoint.

So let’s say they get away with this. People will starve or die in numbers that will shake the country. What’s the end game? Death to balance the budget? And the US will just accept this?

I’d prefer a judicial coup to an orange autocrat.

He also just admitted that fired federal workers hurt the airline industry.

It makes sense. All of these people came of age incubating rage and hate with talk radio and Fox News. When a society demonizes an outgroup, it loses its humanity. Maga is loving all of it.

Of course not. I was seeking information. What is wrong with you. Direct your ire at the actual enemy not people asking questions.

If you’re looking to start a fight go to X. Yesterday I was curious how many. Now I know from today’s reporting.
comment in response to post
Was just curious if we actually know and it appears now many are not. Which speaks to the need for due process.

The Supreme Court has to rule on all of this asap. If they back Trump it’s the end of US democracy.

When the protests start for real, he will declare Marshall law. That is the moment.

The US will now build more of these places in El Salvador. Let them run it far away from the constitution. Extra judicial prison system.
