Protein is debated in terms of what the exact daily quantity is we need. This is very difficult to measure because the experiments are extremely complex. Therefore, we don't have extreme precise guidelines. There is some debate about extra protein speeding up cancer growth. This is debated still tho

Vegan = mix and match protein sources and reach the daily recommended amount

What is the reason you care about protein should be the question. If you care about health, it is unlikely you need to think about it at all as a younger American person. If you want to maximum muscle gain then it matters more. If you're vegan get a mixture of protein sources to balance amino acids.

The amount of protein per day is a debated issue. Some studies show a flat lining in muscle gain beyond 0.8g per pound. Others show continued muscle gains over 1.5g. For health, the vast majority of Americans are getting enough protein. Only people who are elderly or have restrictive diets don't.
