Nobody who voted for that crypto bill should ever hold office again.

Excellent reporting by ProPublica about how the administration is actually helping MS-13 by cooperating with Bukele.

Putting a crypto insider in charge of the CFTA is like putting a drug lord in charge of the DEA. Industry insiders shouldn’t be regulators, but this is even worse. Crypto isn’t even a legitimate industry, just one good at playing the catch-me-if-you-can game with the regulators it’s about to own.

I've seen a bunch of references to this, but I hadn't seen the post itself until now. The menswear guy intentionally, riskily revealed that he's undocumented—that he's a DREAMer—as an act of public solidarity and witness in the face of our current fascist ascendancy.

Great coverage of the class action settlement process- showing the real money that is being recovered for consumers for real wrongdoing, while covering the actual limitations and problems in the system in an linformed way. Thank you @wired.com

These are the proactive steps states need to be taking right now. Another thing: every Democratic governor needs to have a sit-down now with the state adjutant general to carefully review that person's understanding of their responsibilities to their state, its citizens and the federal constitution.

Given the violent actions taken by the Trump Administration against people in DC during the George Floyd protests in the summer of 2020, I’m a little afraid they will just keep some of these tanks parked in DC.

This may be one of the most consequential decisions of our lifetime. Like spilling a box of glitter in an Uber, it will be impossible to undo. People’s lives are going to be ruined for decades, and as time passes, increasingly harder to trace the harm back to this rogue group of compromised maniacs.

One serious red flag in Bondi’s description of his alleged “crimes” is the fact that this article states that the government is seeking 10 years in prison….Don’t real full time human traffickers usually get charged with crimes calling for sentences a hell of a lot longer than that?

More petty, hateful nonsense from this administration.

I agree with this. The “failing” story also helps Musk/Trump/GOP blame courts and fed workers for blocking reform. When in reality they accomplished an astonishing amount of irreversible destruction in just a few months by ignoring laws and court orders, and cruel and illegal treatment of workers

If only the NYT could do this every day

This is terrifying.

Noem knows what habeus corpus means. This entire spectacle reminds me of when the entire House bought Monica Goodling’s act despite her obvious role in illegally firing USAs for political reasons. Leaning into to the soft bigotry of low expectations is a winning game.

Frost: Tonight the people stealing are not folks with tattoos and hoodies but people wearing suits and ties and congressional pins sitting in the capitol now, not in some alley wrapped in darkness but the United States congress wrapped in the flag. It is disgusting and we will never forget this.

There are two reasons to have voted for this bill: (1) you like scams, bribery, and money laundering and think we as a country should ensure those things flourish and are harder for law enforcement to catch; and (2) you don’t know what crypto is and elected not to educate yourself before voting.

Even if the man in the hot dog suit didn’t do this, he’s running a company that lets random employees access sensitive data to promote bizarre grievances. Which raises serious questions about hot dog suit man’s oversight of the security and accuracy of the government databases his team also controls

She is a monster.

Yes! Class cert before an injunction is to put the defendant and class members on notice of their rights and obligations to one another. Rule 23b2 should be for specialized relief for a specialized group, not public rights. It’s unnecessary if public conduct is per se illegal/unconstitutional!

Class actions are a procedural device, not a constitutional one. It is an insane to say that the only way to permanently stop an unconstitutional act is to invoke a legislatively created tool. Especially when they regularly try to argue class actions violate the constitution.

This absolutely must be stopped.

If you are a DC bar member and haven’t voted yet, it’s not too late! Do it today!

Plenty of municipalities do forcibly eject people from their encampments and have for years. The encampments still exist because there is not enough housing, not because municipalities are not persecuting unhoused people harshly enough.

The air traffic control breakdown has got to be one of the stupidest self-inflicted wounds ever.

Almost like there is an inherent level of dishonesty and criminality encouraged by the SV model.

Krugman points out that crypto has no legitimate use cases, but that's a symptom of the fact that crypto is not a currency. But because the public perceives it as a currency, its value grows as faith in the government declines. That's the real problem here, and why Dems should not be supporting it.

A lot of credit is going to Tillis for refusing to support Ed Martin’s nomination but it should go to Schiff for actually leading the way by putting a hold on the nomination. The elected Dems sitting around hoping for Republicans to step up need to take note of how it’s done.

The cult of AI is now literally going to get us all killed.

All the junk science of social media and RFK, now available in a legitimate-seeming book on your kindle. And almost certainly for many more health conditions.

Virginia, I am begging you to find someone to primary Warner, who is up for reelection in 2026.

Now tell us what the milk and meat that we’ve stopped inspecting contain.

We are in hell.

A powerful and important read

I have a new post on Techdirt about the Privacy Act litigation with respect to DOGE attacking the Social Security Administration, but in it I highlight a court's observation that there's a "probable cause" problem with what DOGE wants to do. www.techdirt.com/2025/04/25/e...

I really need reporters to stop calling Ed Martin the US Attorney for DC. He is the “acting” USA. People need to know he has not been confirmed and there’s a chance he won’t be. Not to mention, DC residents don’t have a senator to call but everyone else can help sink him.

GOP on the fake epidemic of scammers stealing Social Security benefits from the SSA: DOGE must fire and terrorize workers, steal PII, and spend millions on AI tools to root it out GOP on the actual epidemic of scammers stealing Social Security benefits from SSA recipients: not our problem

Amazing. Come on DC lawyers, let’s make sure this is a blow out.

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

Judge presiding over the smoldering ashes of the federal government: "these plaintiffs do not have standing..."

First the Kennedy Center, now the National Gallery. A real travesty. This museum is a treasure and I hope it can survive this administration .

Financial crimes are a far bigger threat to Americans than MS-13. Our phones are pushing us texts phishing for ACH fraud opportunities all the time. But “Abolish ICE” was the extreme view, while GOP made no secret of their wish to destroy the CFPB. And here we are. Nobody’s bank account is safe now.
