"We don’t let them die. We’re calling their names. We’re remembering their sacrifice. We’re honoring their legacies." talkingpointsmemo.com/news/generat...

yeah if an unmarked brown F150 pulled up on me and four dudes in plainclothes with rifles and face coverings jumped out I would 2000% assume I was being kidnapped to Culiacán and respond accordingly.

Genuine Question because I Do not understand… so if these men roll up in plain clothes and masks, grab a human being… even a child, and throw them in an unmarked vehicle I am just supposed to look the other way and say nothing ?? Ask Nothing ?

Having a bit of a hard time with the concept that if a guy in a police uniform who has a police vehicle shows up I should lock the doors and call 911, but if a guy in a ski mask with an hGH gut appears to be kidnapping my neighbor, I shouldn’t ask who he is if I don’t want federal charges.

So @whitneycwimbish.bsky.social did a writeup of Brad Lander's arrest today at 26 Federal Plaza in NYC, focusing not just on Lander's treatment, but the treatment of immigrants inside, both in the courtroom and once they are detained. prospect.org/justice/2025...

My choice to protect our neighbors from ICE and Trump: ✅Showed up today to support (and last week, and the one before that ). ✅ has passed and introduced legislation to stop ICE ✅ chaired the Immigration committee That’s @shahanafrombk.bsky.social

This is DREAM in action. Our candidates know that it’s all of us protecting each other and protecting our city from Trump and Adams and Cuomo! You know what to do: DON’T RANK CUOMO.

We’re out at Foley Square right now demanding the release of @bradlander.bsky.social and all New Yorkers illegally abducted by ICE. Join us.

The scene inside 26 Federal Plaza—where Comptroller @bradlander.bsky.social was just arrested for defending an immigrant neighbor—is terrifying. Lines of masked officers waiting to wrongfully arrest people (without a signed judicial warrant) for simply attending their immigration hearings.

Lander says he's fine, lost a button in the scuffle earlier. "I will be fine but Edgardo will not be fine," he says of man taken by ICE when he was detained. Lander says he has not been charged at this point.

This one goes out to all the people asking me what I have against Andrew Cuomo. This has been his M.O. for literally 48 years, except that in the 1977 (losing) mayoral campaign for his father, it was homosexuality, not antisemitism, that was the target of his last-ditch demonization campaign.

Today, @bradlander.bsky.social moved Gov Hochul to action - not just for his release, but to protect our immigrant neighbors with funds.

As long as they’re hiding their faces, badges and names we should stop calling them “federal agents.” Call them masked goons or unidentified thugs or whatever, unless and until they provide proper ID.

"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

Brad has been released and the crowd breaks into a chant of “Free them all.”

To correct the record here: nothing about this was a publicity stunt. New Yorkers have been doing accompaniments and court-watch shifts every day for weeks. This was @bradlander.bsky.social’s third shift. It happened out of nowhere.

the image of a Jewish man locking himself to an immigrant, his fellow neighbor and a stranger, to keep him from being kidnapped by the American gestapo is making me weep. how could he have done differently when we know what we know?! how can any of us

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander was just arrested by Trump’s ICE agents because he asked to see a judicial warrant. This is fascism and all New Yorkers must speak in one voice. Release him now.

NEW statement from NY Attorney General Tish James on Brad Lander's arrest, calling it a "grotesque escalation of tensions."

“A reporter from The City had overheard one agent say to another minutes before Lander’s arrest, 'Do you want to arrest the Comptroller?'” - from @gwynnefitz.bsky.social at @thecity.nyc

They've arrested or tackled and handcuffed: * Judge * US Senator * Congresswoman * Mayor * City Comptroller/Mayoral Candidate

🎶 And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free 🎶

"What Brad did was engage in that very moment of courage. He showed us what leadership can look like. And for that, he was arrested."

Cuomo <says> he’ll stand up to Trump. THIS is what standing up for our neighbors and standing against Trump looks like. Release Brad. Release ALL our kidnapped neighbors. ICE out of our city.

In case the masked gang, I mean ICE, is unaware: They just pissed off one of the most organized groups this city has ever seen, at the peak of our organizing. We got about 40,000 volunteers, who have knocked on over 1.1 million doors - who are ready to take them on. Fight back ✊️✊️✊️

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife. While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE. This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds. He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings. He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.

Brad was there EVERY FUCKING WEEK as have many members of @jfrejnyc.bsky.social. This wasn't just today.

After ruling the NIH grant terminations illegal, Judge Young ended the hearing with an eye-opening speech. “This represents racial discrimination, and discrimination against America’s LGBTQ community. That's what this is. I would be blind not to call it out. My duty is to call it out. And I do so.”

Pay no attention to what’s underneath. No Cuomo

Unsurprisingly, Cuomo’s car has been ticketed for speeding in a school zone four times in a month howsmydrivingny.nyc/h97qmnh0

NEW: GAO has ruled Trump illegally impounded funds. “IMLS ceased performing agency functions and withheld from obligation and expenditure funds that Congress appropriated for such functions. … GAO concludes that IMLS has violated the ICA by withholding funds from obligation and expenditure.“

The NYT E Board is a grotesque contortion: 🥨”many NYers are disappointed in the field” = unprecedented volunteering. 🥨An imaginary view of NY that ignores Cuomo’s role in the problems. 🥨 “vexing” = we’re not being listened to. 🥨 what sexual harassment and corruption? You could have just … not 🤐

I don’t like to swear. And I have many friends at the New York Times, who I love. But with all my heart: fuck the @nytimes.com editorial board for their idiotic, tortured, uniformed, fear-mongering, mealy-mouthed, bullshit mayor’s race op-ed. First, let’s talk politics. What’s it doing? (1/5)

Wow, NYTimes be like, “Andrew Cuomo is our problematic fave." The editorial board willfully misunderstands something I figured out in early adulthood: that sexual harassment tells you everything about someone’s relationship with power, and on its own, ought to be enough to disqualify from office.

we have an elite impunity problem and a lot of the people and institutions that nominally oppose Trump will burn down their own before admitting that this helped produce him

If you are too young to remember the Iraq War, you'll hear "no one protested" and "no one knew they were lying." Millions of people knew they were lying and protested. The press not only did not want a record of mass dissent; they did not want a record of mass knowledge of lies.

Modern Civil War looks a lot like everything we are experiencing from low level attacks by paramilitary groups to the appearance of military on the streets and the murder of political opponents in government by partisan terrorists and the accelerating attacks on civilians by irregular forces

Israel attacking Rafah was Biden's red line. It happened anyway, without consequences from the US. That immediately displaced 100s of 1000s + crippled aid efforts for Gaza. Now, "destruction in Rafah is..more widespread + methodical than Aleppo/Mosul/Sarajevo/Kabul" www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

It takes 3.5% leading a mass uprising and shutting down the Capitol for weeks at a time. Waiving a bunch of signs in public parks for a single day isn't going to magically do it.

The fact that civilian leadership understands it can’t rein in the police without having their families physically threatened really is a democratic crisis.
