Great, smart, correct piece by @hirschorn.sky.social on how and why more people on the left need to take the leads of Buttigieg and Bernie—un-clutch their pearls and plunge into the contemporary American media hurly-burly. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/10/o...

In 2010 SCOTUS allowed states to loosen gun laws. In those that did, many more kids have been killed. But in the 9 states that didn’t and have the strictest laws, those numbers have stayed the same or dropped. The leading cause of death for American children is getting shot. It’s a choice.

Who told the Washington bureaucrat Tom Homans that he should go full cosplay with the fatigues and patrol cap?

Almost shockingly good duscussion in @cnn.com following the play. @abbyphillip.bsky.social:exceptional.

Good Night and Good Luck is a good play. Astoundingly, fortuitously resonant. Brilliant to air it on @cnn.com. Directed on live TV by David Cromer better than I’ve ever seen that done. Bravo to one and all.

It’s so dumb—the result if an inefficient market due to the crazily herd mentality of fashion—that only 6 of Manhattan’ 67 best restaurants are uptown. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Being deeply “uninformed about legislation and the Congressional process” and the nature of government is one of the main things they have in common. Along with megalomania and impulsiveness. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/06/u...

Elon opens a new anti-Trump GOP policy front—he’s super-pro-solar!

My bet last December on the breakup timing was the 2nd quarter 2025. What do I win?

Along with being a dangerously deranged un-American moron and liar. he remains The Greatest Self-Parodist of All Time.

Fabulous long story by Masha Gessen about the amazing investigative journalist and actual hero Cristo Grosev. (Who also happens to be a charming, good-humored guy.) Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/02/o...

This is so great. Big corporate clients—Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Citadel Oracle, many more—now mistrust the scaredy-cat big law firms for panicking and instantly capitulating to Trump’s unconstitutional threats, and have started taking their legal business elsewhere. www.wsj.com/us-news/law/...

Succession was brilliant, among the best shows ever. Jesse Armstrong’s 2-hour followup Mountainhead, alas, is not. Succession’s hyperrealism and dry-martini satirical sensibility lashed to a farcical slapstick cartoon premise does not work.

Do halfwitted algorithms generate the fun ironic adjacencies between news stories and ads that often occur? Or are they random coincidences? Such as this Tory Burch ad embedded within today’s Times story about Mormon women eager to buy the new tank-top sacred undershirts the church now permits.

Wow. Carefully choosing to be an asshole by making a joke out of pretending to apologize for having extemporaneously been an asshole. With a sincere (?} callout to Jesus as a kicker at the end. She’s up for re-election next year.

Someone needs to bring a big arena rock sized amplifier up in front of the White House and just put sad trombone on infinite loop.

"Was it all bullshit?" That Trump apparently believed Musk's ignorant little chainsawing task force really could come in and unilaterally cut $1 trillion (or $2 trillion) from the federal budget shows you just how unbelievably stupid he is. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

Trump and his Republican Party are reckless un-American anti-constitutional radicals, the very opposite of conservative. His breakup with the Federalist Society makes it official, confirmation that Trump and his GOP are a cult of cruelty, chaos and corruption. Conservative in name only.

Great Paul Krugman explainer on dangers of the almost-passed GENIUS Act. It lets banks issue crypto known as stablecoin, setting up a new path to a financial crash. Which of the 16 D Senators who supported it will finally vote to own potential catastrophe? paulkrugman.substack.com/p/digital-co...

The Anthropic AI CEO/co-founder predicts AI may "spike unemployment to 20% in the next 1 to 5 years." It prompted me to re-read my chapter about our economic future in my 2020 book Evil Geniuses. It's aged okay –– consensus then was AI eliminates 15% to 30% U.S. jobs "in the next 10 to 20 years."

Our angry stupid president turns on the Federalist Society and insults its mastermind powerbroker because another Trump-appointed Federalist Society-approved judge ruled he must obey the Constitution. LOVE IT.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Love it

Trump Always Chickens Out. He’s fuming! Keep him fuming. TACO! TACO! TACO! TACO! TACO! TACO! www.wsj.com/finance/stoc...

• Good: “Legal experts told The Post the lawsuits are likely to succeed if they make it to the Supreme Court.” • Good: 2 of 3 judges on this U.S. Court of International Trade panel were appointed by Trump and Reagan. • Question: why’d I never know of the Court of International Trade until now?

All U.S. financial assets—public & private equity, corporate bonds, private equity & debt, government bonds—are worth around $100 trillion. Americans own $1T in crypto. When that bubble bursts it won’t hurt the system, just the speculators—mainly younger men & now one old one.

Wow, this passage in Trump’s West Point speech the other day—America’s founding history of slavery, anti-fascist, pro-civil rights…so left-wing DEI woke!

This by Stanford political scientist @adambonica.bsky.social is heartening—especially judges appointed by Republicans upholding the Constitution, i.e. not acting like Republican politicians.

Just one day’s news of our criminal grifter president brazenly rewarding, enabling, encouraging and engage in major crimes and grifts.

Highly recommend. I’d known little about @mcuban.bsky.social — pugnacious tech billionaire bro NBA owner who was pro-Harris vs Trump. No idea he started & runs Cost Plus Drugs, or what it really is. Fascinating — and 👍🏻 on our monopoly health care system. Also interesting on AI and politics.

Watching Andor, occurs to me that New York City really should start promoting the Oculus subway station to tourists as a Star Wars-themed attraction. Fantasy left, reality right.

The Republican budget bill gives a $1.1 trillion tax cut to people who earn >$500,000. And reduces Medicaid and Food Stamp benefits for the poor—overwhelmingly the working poor—by $1.1 trillion. Perfect greedy cruel Evil Geniuses symmetry. In all the richest 20% get 75% of tax cuts. Disgusting.
