Is the Bible fan fiction? A thread. 📜

I'm at that stage of working on a piece of writing where I've got more tabs open of sources to read than I have actual words down. This is an exaggeration for comic effect, but not actually by much...

A thing I love about being Jewish is that I can eat a whole burrata cheese with my dinner and call it celebrating Shavuot. (I might even have some cheesecake for dessert too)

Life in Lancaster would be transformed if there was a tram between the city centre and the university.

Hey pals, today (June 1st) the UK ebook of THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR is only ÂŁ0.99! Happy Pride! www.amazon.co.uk/This-How-You...

.....huh. (This is a Doctor Who related post)

So glad I got to see Sinners at the cinema, what an incredible film.

"Yes, thought Vimes. That's the way it was. Privilege, which just means private law. Two types of people laugh at the law: those that break it and those that make it." #GNUTerryPratchett

Today's reading on this Glorious 25th of May. #GNUTerryPratchett

Here's Terry Pratchett mastering the urban fantasy/hidden London genre in less than 500 words when he was just 17, in February 1966. "The idea of people rushing round deep under the earth is dark and mysterious, and the monks want to make sure people remember that".

It occurs to me that a production of Hamlet where the Ghost is a supposed AI copy of Old Hamlet, and Hamlet has to work out whether the information it gives can be trusted, would convey a lot more of the intended theological uncertainty than modern audiences are used to.

Would you like to write for New Scientist? We always work with freelancers, but occasionally I put out a call like this for new writers. I'm looking for 300-700 word news stories about new discoveries. Don't pitch us press releases or the big journals, we have those covered. Pay starts at 51p/word

This is a very good thread on how using AI without doing enough sense checks can create false stories that in turn generate bad policy. I’m all for data informed policy making but Dartmoor tors are very much not peatland.

Caught up on the Eurovision semi-final 2, 5 of the 6 acts I would have kept got knocked out. Viewers on Saturday will be deprived of the Milkshake Man, the song about Laika, and the animate duvet. This is why I watch the heats! But at least my favourites the Latvian axolotl are through.

Ahhhh!! This is incredibly exciting. (And if you don't know why, go and read 17776 right now)

Can anybody identify this peculiar device? It's awesome - but the owner has no idea what it is.

Andor. Wow. That is all.

(Yes I am watching the Eurovision heats but I had a meeting in a US timezone which has only just finished, so I'm an hour behind!)

early morning green & blue

Ironic that the political party that seems to be most consistently talking sense at the moment is one I can no longer vote for. Do you think if SNP candidates stood and won in England they'd let the areas in question join Scotland?

"To stand any chance of staying in power, Labour must cease being Reform-light and begin prioritising the investment that will improve working people’s lives” @drjogrady.bsky.social on the government’s immigration white paper. Read our statement ⬇️ www.ucu.org.uk/article/1401...
