It felt like almost a quarter of the scenes in the movie only existed to reference something, usually serving no purpose and also often making absolutely no sense. There were at least two times when someone says something completely out of character just because it was a line from aliens

Based on how people were talking about it i thought there would be a couple of cringey references in an otherwise good movie, but I can't think of a movie with a more egregious and overbearing number of references than romulus. The movie screeches to a halt so it can keep going "remember this?"

Naming a movie after the characters nickname is incredibly deceptive and should be considered one of the most insidious forms of false advertising. A movie title should be the main characters full legal name and I'm tired of pretending anything else is ok.
