The famous people who you declare getting cancer to be “karma” will never see your words. But your friends with cancer will see. Your friends who have lost loved ones to cancer will see. Your friends with chronic illness who have symptoms you mock like incontinence will see— Oh yeah. That’s me.

I mean, having every normie addicted to chat GPT and completely outsourcing any thought or belief to whatever it tells you is the dream come true for this reason alone, that's why it's being pushed so hard on everyone. AI allows you to steal labour for free, and control everyone. it's perfect🤷

If you bomb a hospital filled with patients it's unambiguously a war crime, but if you say there was a known enemy combatant inside at the time, that's still unambiguously a war crime, like seriously, what are we even doing here

This white genocide debacle highlights another reason to be extremely cautious of AI that I don't see people talking about much--if you're getting your information from AI, your knowledge will be selectively curated by the people who control the AI

hey labour - I got your solution to reform right here. you ready? 1) tax the rich, even if they squeal and make you uncomfortable at dinner parties 2) use the money to visibly, meaningfully and materially improve people's daily lives there u go kier babbs x

Currently, my D&D group is spending their time on (re)inventing a high fantasy version of Multi-Factor Authentication.

Everyone in the past was neurotypical, which is how we got things like this single-author, eight-volume encyclopedia of ferns

All together now: ADVERTISING IS POLLUTION

Friendly May Day reminder that cops aren’t workers! FTP!

I have a bone to pick with art cynicism in particular. Every time I see someone comment "Meh, I could have done that, too." on a piece of modern art, I just want to yell at them.

In better news: my copy of #HeavenlyTyrant arrived! :3

[CN] self-censorship around the word "rape" At this rate the TikTok-talk to supposedly avoid shadowbans ("unalive" instead of "kill", "grape" instead of "rape", ...) has become so omnipresent that my first association with 🍇 is no longer the delicious fruit but the heinous crime and I hate that.

A key difference here is that while either can be incorrect, the structure of Wikipedia *creates context* and the structure of LLMs *destroys context* Wikipedia has linked sources and an edit history showing where information came from and who added it when An LLM just generates text

One time I won some cookies I didn't like at an event and decided to reverse-steal them into my local supermarket. So I took them with me in my bag from home, left them with the others of their kind in the supermarket shelf and walked out again.

My critique is "They seem useful, but actually suck". A subtle distinction. They SEEM very easy to use, so easy in fact that other methods seem hard by comparrison. SEEMING useful is actually part of why they suck. They trick you into giving up on thinking, searching, finding.

You all need to treat Harry Potter IP like we’re treating the Tesla brand.

It is really bothering me (understatement) that the message is “bring back that one innocent guy” and not “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK SHUT DOWN THIS WHOLE OPERATION IMMEDIATELY.”

If you're a cis person who bought hogwarts legacy, you owe a trans person $70 immediately. Also you should probably wear a hat that says "dipshit" on it

Finished Iron Widow. I have some notes but I gotta say, I do love me a book about burning down an unjust and evil society purely with rage and spite. Good book, would recommend!
