React is to JavaScript as SpringBoot is to Java.

Today in Parliament I raised a serious concern that Thames Water is expected to run out of money by summer 2026. I asked the Government if it will act in or if we should be preparing for another emergency recall of Parliament. Shockingly the Minister claimed the company is stable!!

I have discovered that when I am waiting outside my daughter’s dance class for an hour and a half, I don’t have to sit in the car doing nothing useful. I can, in fact, get out of the car, and do some exercise. This is a game-changer.

You know the people who post things like “Sorry I haven’t been posting much lately”… Did anybody notice that they haven’t been posting much lately?

Watching Starhunter: Redux. I haven’t seen anything so 1980s British since the 1970s.

Time to clarify something. When authors say “Unbound haven’t paid me” that makes it sound like Unbound had some money, which they used to buy authors’ writing. Unbound had no money. The authors did: we had raised that money. They were holding it in trust. Unbound stole our money.

FACT: As an adult, you only need as much sleep as your dog will give you.

“Something something half something poorly implemented lisp”

Everyone should note Unbound is now Boundless and you should never buy anything from them

This incorrect text/buggy calculation has been present in Apple’s Health app for years. So simple to fix.

“The same people who did X are now doing Y” Are you sure it is the same people? Or is it people in the group you’ve assigned them all to and decided to see them all as the same, because they’re not in *your* group? Out-Group Homogeneity Bias is real.

The BYD Seagull, the Model-T Ford of the EV era. $7,000 full featured car, EVs are often described as laptops on wheels, this one is cheaper than a top-of-the-range Apple laptop. It's also a mobile 35KW storage unit. harrybenham.substack.com/p/the-seagul...

LOL. About a year ago, I predicted that some AI coding assistant startups would actually be mechanical Turks: www-businesstoday-in.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.busi...

The US has this weird Heisenberg selective service (sign up for the draft) thing. US citizens over the age of 18 have to sign up, before the age of 25, to say they agree to being drafted into military service, or they are denied a driving license, access to federal funds for certain thing etc.

Hyper-AI in the BlockCloud. It’s coming.

I watched the 2009-2010 Caprica series on Prime. It’s a prequel to Battlestar Galactica. It’s quite good, although a little slow in parts. It’s a shame there wasn’t a second series.

Today, I got the worst pun I have ever written into the paper of record. Your applause, please.

The curse of social media: not just for software engineering but other areas as I observe (say, hiring, investing, product management, venture capital etc) Those the best at their craft are usually busy building not writing/posting. Viral posts often wrong in many ways etc Via @icooper.bsky.social

How does this fine get paid?

Scientist in a film, looking at the outside of an integrated circuit: Hmmm… fascinating design.
