Arsenal trio Myles Lewis-Skelly, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have all been selected by Thomas Tuchel for the pair of June internationals. No Ben White however

Not everyday you see three English batters hit centuries as well as Joe Root reach 13,000 Test runs here at Trent Bridge. Football? What football…?

We Are The Arsenal

That’s me done here at the Emirates after the Gunners final home match of the 2024-25 season to make it 57 out of 57 Arsenal games I’ve reported on this season. I’m off to catch up with old pals on Upper Street tonight & have a beer. Have a good one whatever you’re up to, cheers

FT: Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle. The Gunners seal runners up spot. See @M_Star_Online newspaper and my @SubstackInc Layth’s Take for my reaction

Good to see Kai Havertz return to Arsenal first team action after four months out

The new Arsenal U9s have been introduced to the Emirates here at half time. Great to see future Premier League champions 2040…

Arsenal vs Newcastle Live Blog A win over the Geordies would clinch Premier League runners-up spot www.onlinegooner.com/articles/vie...

Made it to Arsenal vs Newcastle. No thanks to the utterly execrable @GoviaGN and their useless bosses who award themselves ridiculously large bonuses while running the service down to such an embarrassingly poor level. Come the revolution you’ll be the first against the wall

Congratulations to Crystal Palace and former Arsenal man Eddie Nketiah on winning the 2025 FA Cup

Goal ruled out for offside. Still 1-0. PS Loving the medical staff squaring up

Get in Palace!

As much as you wanted Henderson to stay on the pitch how on earth can VAR justify not sending the keeper off. Doubling down with spurious justifications makes it a complete & utter nonsense from the authorities. Yet another clear & obvious mistake from a body not fit for purpose

Henderson saves Marmoush’s penalty!

Goal for Palace! Excellent finish by Eze!

Sad to learn Brian Glanville has died. Covering games into his 80s I once saw him shuffle into the Arsenal press area after a match. He could barely walk, had no notes nor a laptop, but watching the great man read his word perfect copy down the phone was utterly spellbinding. RIP

Arsenal's new red and white home kit: Lighten my wallet now - Gooner Fanzine Read loyal Gooner Nick Manfredi's review of Arsenal's new home kit for 2025-26 Blue has no place on an Arsenal home shirt says Arsenal writer Nick Manfredi www.onlinegooner.com/articles/vie...

I think what I really like about the new Arsenal home kit is that it features only red and white. No other colours. Fantastic www.onlinegooner.com/articles/vie...

Au revoir Paris, jusqu'à la prochaine fois…

Hector Guimard’s avant-garde Paris Metro signs are a work of beauty. Commissioned to make the above ground entryways as aesthetically pleasing as possible a total of 141 were built between 1900 & 1912 with 86 still remaining today. Salvador Dali called them “Divine entrances…”

Strolling past Notre Dame on my way to get the metro to the Gare du Nord when I notice the bells are being given a fair old rattle at such a random time. Wondered why. Then someone said that’s because there’s a new Pope. Time to watch Conclave again…

Finally back down along the Seine’s Left Bank to my final stop on my walking tour. Shakespeare & Co bookshop. Where a skint Hemingway once begged and borrowed books. The shop's motto: "Be Not Inhospitable to Strangers Lest They Be Angels in Disguise” is above the reading library

A walk back downhill again along the Sorbonne, one of the world’s great universities, along with Oxford, Cambridge, and Hull, to paraphrase Blackadder…

In a shabby side street amid the bustling Latin Quartier is No6 Rue du Pot de Fer. George Orwell’s boarding house where he wrote ‘Down & Out in Paris & London. “Nobody cares if work is useful or useless, productive or parasitic. The sole thing demanded is it shall be profitable.”

A walk uphill to the Pantheon, situated in the Latin Quarter. Paris’ neoclassical dome is a stately masterpiece serving as a mausoleum for some of France’s greatest philosophers including Voltaire & Rousseau as well as Victor Hugo. Built on the burial site of St Genevieve in 451

After a superb late lunch it’s time to go On The Road. This time to Jack Kerouac’s favoured stay when in Paris, Hotel du Vieux Paris. As the beat poet wrote: “In the end, you won’t recall the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.”

Time for a late lunch here in Paris’ glorious Left Bank or Rive Gauche. Steak tartare (avec un ouef) et Croc Madame (avec un ouef) and a carafe of house red. Parfait…

Henry Miller stayed in the fifth floor of 36 Rue Bonaparte here in the Left Bank. I asked nicely & the kind people let me look around the study. As the American novelist wrote “The aim of life is to live. To live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware.”

Now for Hotel d’Angleterre. Where another of my literary heroes Ernest Hemmingway spent his first night in Paris. I love imagining Hemmingway strolling these very streets of the evocative Left Bank more than a century ago. “A man can be destroyed but never defeated…” he wrote

Mind you someone’s making money out of Wilde’s death as you can stay at the “Oscar Wilde Suite” for up to 1,325 Euros for a single night here in Paris…as the great man wrote in The Picture of Dorian Gray: “Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing…”

Came across former Hotel d’Alsace now known as simply L’Hotel here in the Left Bank. The place where Oscar Wilde died in 1900. Apparently the great Irish author, poet and playwright said: “I am dying above my means.” Other guests include Marlon Brando & South American poet Borges

Paris in the spring really lifts the spirits…many of its quartiers (neighbourhoods) have their own distinct character and feel like a village in the centre of one of the world’s great cities…especially when you’re simply strolling around taking it all in…
