Greetings from Leicester. My young son is currently playing with kids of different ethnicities. As we walked through the park, a young black girl said hi and gave me a fistbump, then I stopped to kick a stray ball back to a group of Asian lads. Why would this scene make Mr Goodhart s**t his pants?

So,as a little thought-experiment, tell me something about the United Kingdom that works well and is actually quite impressive. I am not trying to sound like some boosterish politician. I just genuinely believe that making people believe that all is lost is a convenient pretext for shady characters.

It is very very funny that one of the few genuine ways we have diverged from EU law since Brexit is VAT on private schools.
Karmic punishment for Telegraph readers.

Wanted to share this opening remark from @casmudde.bsky.social's talk on how to deal with the flurry of news and daily reasons for outrage we're all faced with. I'm not saying this is necessarily the way to go for everybody, but, being one of those terminally online people, it did resonate with me.

The good or potentially bad news is that due to climate change, more Chiffchaffs are staying in the UK year-round, rather than flying south for the winter... Don't have nightmares!

Cetirizine Hydrochloride. Cheaply available in generic form. Does the job for me...

You should run a Velvet Underground special -e.g. Uncle Ray, Thursday Morning, Venus in Corduroys...

Fantastic spot, Sunder! I was tinkering around with some GE data recently, and you're absolutely right. There aren't too many Tory walkovers available anymore...

It would have been possible for someone at the NME to edit out the gratuitous intro, and the stuff about 'not encouraging the working classes to breed', at the very least. I just don't accept an article as unrestrained as that was a normal part of the rough and tumble of the music press of the time.

For example, a band called The Hybirds got a huge review (10/10, IIRC) at around this time. The NME made the call to get behind them - not that they went much further. On the other hand, 0/10, that Ad0lf comparison and the 'Gane Over' headline were clearly calculated to trash the band's reputation.

Bloody hell, John... Sharp compares them to H*tler in his intro, among other tasteless slurs, gives them 0/10, and you're arguing that it wasn't a hit piece?! I think it's perfectly understandable that such extremely vindictive writing would stick in the band's memory. And everyone else's.
