I was in Poland as part of a business trip and I found those to be so comforting as I wandered around alone after work

They definitely do - our town finally got a no horn zone but they can blare it if they feel it is necessary- which it apparently is often at 5 am

I use this awesome video and link it to the assumptions www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NdM...

In my intro bio class I introduce the concept and the assumptions but don’t spend anytime (beyond showing that there is an equation) on maths. The lab (which is not required) has some basic use/calculations

Magic tree house is an interesting choice (curious if it is the entire series)

One day there was an absolute racket outside and I swear half of the crows in the city were sitting in a tree - I looked up and the most exasperated great horned owl was there

Could be cellophane bees - they line their nest holes with a cellophane- like material to keep their eggs dry

I love the natural world and exploring but we have whole buildings of safe* and yummy foods - we have such little wild spaces left so maybe let’s not just pick things Willy nilly(* except we have fired all the inspectors)

My favorite thing (sarcasm) is people posting mushrooms to Facebook groups that are sitting **on their counter** asking if they are safe to eat. Why did you pick it and bring it home????

Right! I was very incredulous and had to relisten. I guess we all get old and grumpy with kids these days (I know I have complaints- lol)

A while ago I heard an interview with Annie Lennox where she was complaining about what current (women) pop stars are wearing and I lost a lot of respect for her, because really????

I was at a micro credential info session and they used MOOCs as a good example of innovation! Like it was a successful thing that was ongoing and MCs could be next! They lost me right there

Nope - in part SW is very nostalgic - grew up with OG, kid was prequel era (so I experienced it though his eyes and the plot wasn't that important), much of the newer stuff I like because it is fun (solo, mandalorian, first 2 movies). I cannot bring myself to watch Andor (started it, too heavy RN)

25 years ago the university I was at got a new president and even though there was a budget crunch he had all the windows cleaned and made a big push for little repairs - morale improved right away!

Again - not arguing with you! I was trying to comment on the administrations attack on higher ed combined with the gutting of agencies (and the one guys comment that people should be working in factories for generations) - I highly respect trades!
comment in response to
post
I wasn’t arguing with any of that - I just think the GOPs version of the future, given their inane policies towards higher Ed, is factory work - so trades are a good way to avoid that (I definitely think trades are a good thing and respect that knowledge)
comment in response to
post
Honestly I think trade schools would be a better choice given all this destruction of good jobs (via doge and AI) - we will still need plumbers [I know there are many choices at trade schools that would not be good too]

I use Kagi (you pay for it though) - it sits on top of Google I think, but it rips off the AI crap and no ads or sponsored posts
