Oh, it will be short-lived, as it goes to his own personal rubber stamp SCOTUS. (Sorry for the cynicism but I do think that's where we are.)

I would add to those, Oppositional Defiance Disorder. (Wonder if that is in the same Cluster.)

This is heartbreaking. It is one of the reasons I am so invested in helping prepare texts for preservation on Project Gutenberg ... the idea of having a repository of our shared ideals and history ... with a view toward educating & rebuilding.

Next phase ... Carousel. (Literary reference: Logan's Run.)

I suspect that it's partly that many aren't following the news, but also don't have enough history or civics to recognize corruption when they see it. How many median voters even know what the Hatch Act is?

A lot has been made of his dementia, & that's important. But I also think he has Oppositional Defiance Disorder, of which little is said, but which could go a long way to explaining his scorched-earth behavior and how rational persuasion doesn't work with him.

I wish she could find a way to remain in the public eye. After all, she inspired so many of us.

I don't remember who on #sistersinlaw recommended Ketanji Brown Jackson's memoir "Lovely One," but thank you thank you! I took the advice to listen to the audio version & it is indeed riveting! @barbmcquade.bsky.social @joycewhitevance.bsky.social @kimberlyeatkins.bsky.social

With all the vaccine development he's canceling, I think the purpose is (to paraphrase Charles Dickens) to "decrease the surplus population."

This is the party of "neener neener." That is their sole platform, because they cannot and won't actually do anything useful.

Musk is developing a payment app in partnership with Visa. Additionally, his staff has connected external hard drives to CFPB systems, raising serious concerns about unauthorized access to trade secrets from enforcement actions involving companies that compete with his future ventures.

But how on earth can they just shut down medical research? Any WHY? (To maximize the profits of Big Pharma?) I'm afraid this is something we won't be able to get back again.

I read antique children's books by Horatio Alger, Oliver Optic etc (preserving texts for Project Gutenberg). Aimed at boys (it was the era), the protagonists succeed through sheer pluck, smarts. HONESTY & CHARACTER. Morality tales may seem boring, but that ethos does seem to be missing these days.

Incitatus. The cruelly vile and mentally ill Roman emperor Caligula. (Big Masterpiece Theatre buff here, going way back.) Caligula met a messy end.

This is not a very good picture (iPhone, zoom), but here in Oregon we get Anna's hummingbirds year round. We have suction-cup feeders on the windows so we can watch them. They've been hungry during this very cold weather!

Well, Google is now officially in the doghouse with me, since they think they need to label the Gulf of Mexico "The Gulf of America." (But only to the U.S. audience, mind you.) Lame capitulators.

As an Oregonian, I think I need to place the Pacific Northwest Spigot on my "Bucket list" to visit. It must be one of those hidden gems.
