this trip back home from Portland has gone so wrong and gotten so ridiculous that it could be a miles in transit accidentally a trip report

NASA is being told to cancel 19 *active* missions to save $6B, which looks to be less than the ICE *hiring/retention* budget going forward. I need people to let that sentence sink into their bones for a minute.

Who will I be seeing in 3 days? :3

Left PortConMaine, not sure if I will return next year or not but I've got plenty of time to decide. I'm feeling pretty burnt out right now which isn't great because I have <72 hours till my next big thing :O and I have to work tomorrow

i think folks tend to get lost in the sauce of righteousness that we forget cons are run by our fellow community members, by majority volunteer work. we wouldn't have these spaces to be safe and be with our loved ones without them. its ok to disagree, but don't be abusive about it lol.

Mmm just want to quietly say, as we approach Anthrocon… please remember con staff, at almost every level, are unpaid volunteers who are doing a lot of work out of a love for their community. Be kind, and see con staff as your allies, even if there are policies you don’t understand or agree with.

In terms of con panels I think this is definitely one of them

ceiling

is this anything

If you attend cons you should read this and know it is 1000% accurate. I love staffing cons, it let me get experience doing a lot of fun things I don't get to day to day, had some of the moments I am most prowd of and met some of the best people. But my god is it a lot of work. And we do it for you.

I am not con leadership and cannot speak for any particular event but if anyone has general questions about why a decision was made I can offer my educated guess, happy to discuss. Conrunning is my special interest:P

i am going to be honest, ever year working cons gets way harder. it has literally nothing to do with the amount of work or the kind of work. it's literally just how you're treated. ten thousand armchair quarterbacks just endlessly complaining and name calling.

Artists and small business owners who use Stripe- there's a new "AI" feature for payment disputes, it's auto-enabled and will charge a 30% fee if you win a dispute using it. You might want to turn this off. I personally don't trust a slop feature to handle disputes for me either.

There is no amount of ac you could blast or not blast that would even make a dent in the rate of climate change compared to how wasteful corporations, governments, and militaries are every day.

gonna run for Congress so I can get a free issue of the onion

"anthrocon twerk-off"? no babygirl... this is the anthrocon tweak-off. grab that iFixit kit. we're unscrewing this entire Sheraton double queen suite

Someone in the replies called this doordash for bears and I can't stop laughing

don't love the four hour turnaround between getting home from a con at 1am and having to go to work at 5am the next morning but we ball

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered. Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again. Their inaction is deadly.
