Following attacks on humanitarians in South Sudan, Gaza, and Sudan, including @msf.org and killings of Palestine Red Crescent Society & Relief International staff ....the silence is deafening No outrage No accountability What is the cost for killing humanitarians? swissinfo.ch/eng/internat...

“The Israeli authorities’ decision to allow a ridiculously inadequate amount of aid into Gaza after months of an air-tight siege signals their intention to avoid the accusation of starving people in Gaza, while in fact keeping them barely surviving,” said MSF’s emergency coordinator…

#Gaza: The U.S.-Israel plan to control the distribution of supplies under the guise of humanitarian assistance raises grave ethical, security and legal concerns. Doctors Without Borders call on Israeli authorities to uphold International Humanitarian Law. Share if you do too.

I also discuss the bizarre and disturbing association between the Starmer government and former special advisers to Boris Johnson and Liz Truss. I vaguely remember being told something about "Change". But this continuity is beyond our worst nightmares. Not just Tory policies, but actual Tories.

Do you love life? Do you love music? Do you love people that help you learn music, that then by default enhances your life? If so..... Get following @jrhodespianist.bsky.social, as he is on this platform. Absolute legend..... in my extremely humble opinion.

We have a fairly new pond in the garden, and I had to put some bigger stones in yesterday to anchor the flourishing plants. I went to bed with grave fear that I had crushed the aquatic snails, and I can't fully convey the joy of seeing them both in the pond tonight (After not seeing them in the am).

Today's humanitarian update: ➖#Gaza: More community kitchens shut as aid runs out ➖#Syria: Civilians at risk from explosive remnants ➖#DRCongo: Funding cuts force aid workers to reprioritize DRC response ➖#Haiti: UN and partners support displaced children More: bit.ly/438RdBB

#Gaza: At least 33 people were killed and dozens injured, according to the Ministry of Health, after airstrikes hit Gaza City today, just metres from an MSF clinic. Our teams stabilised 28 patients, who were transferred to Al-Shifa hospital. Two MSF staff members were injured.

This may sound grim, but it is a colossal underestimate of the impact of 4C heating Forget 40% poorer - this will leave billions dead and society and economy will have collapsed long before the 4C mark is reached www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The vast fire on #Dartmoor should alert us to the ecological disaster there. This should not be a fire-prone landscape. Were it not for the elimination of trees by grazing, the vegetation type on the high moor would be temperate rainforest, which is extremely hard to burn. But only specks remain.

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.

Vaccination currently prevents between 3.5-5 million deaths every year, according to World Health Organization. Working in some of the world’s most challenging environments, the IFRC supports our 191 National Societies to reach vulnerable and isolated communities with life-saving vaccines.

Sudanese refugees describe the war that they fled in this moving @nytimes.com video filmed at a @doctorswithoutborders.org clinic on the Chadian border. I'm grateful for all those who show humanity and compassion in the face of violence these days. www.nytimes.com/video/world/...

"The question isn't how to solve climate change, it is how to live wisely in a world where the old solutions no longer apply." A Frankly from @natehagens.bsky.social flagging that we need to see the world as it is, not as we want it to be. Give it a watch/listen.

Over a month of siege has left people in #Gaza deprived of food, water and medicine, marking the longest period without relief since the war began. Doctors Without Borders' teams are forced to ration medications and treat wounds without pain relief. This must end.

There is now a petition against the UK gov's crazy airport expansion plans in case you'd like to sign too :-) petition.parliament.uk/petitions/71...

The U.S. government’s decision to end support for Gavi could deny millions of children routine #vaccinations. While we do not accept Gavi funding, over half of the vaccines Doctors Without Borders use come from ministries of health that rely on it. www.doctorswithoutborders.org/latest/us-de...

Doctors Without Borders Secretary-General @chrislockyear.msf.org talks to @aljazeera.com about working in war zones like #Sudan and #Gaza and the impact of aid funding cuts. www.aljazeera.com/program/talk...

April 1st: The only day of the year when people pause for critical thought instead of automatically accepting what they read on the internet!

During apartheid, South African armed forces killed 69 civilians in the Sharpeville Massacre. The world was shocked. This event is still taught in history classes. On average, Israel has massacred more than 70 Palestinian civilians *every day* for the past 18 months.

If we don't respond, the answers will be dominated by the very people who got us into this mess. Decisions about land use all too often fall prey to reactionary politics. So please, even if only briefly, fill out the consultation form. Thanks.

If direct air capture (DAC), a CO₂ removal (CDR) technique, costs $500 per tonne, removing just US emissions would cost ~$3 trillion annually (that's ~4x US military spending). It would also require twice the total power generation capacity of the US today (and it has to be 100% carbon-free).

Feels like we're doing something really wrong if we need a World Water Day but here we are. Here’s a reminder that 2.2 billion people have no access to safe water and half the world doesn’t have basic sanitation but yet rich countries flush their toilets with clean drinking water.

I don't often ask people to write to their MPs. But I think they might listen to you on this, as it's so jaw-droppingly awful, and they're almost certainly unaware of it. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... Please also write to the Environment Secretary: [email protected] Thanks.

We are deep in a war on activism and political speech www.nytimes.com/2025/03/19/c...

We must treat these funding cuts like the humanitarian disaster that they are. US funding cuts will affect millions around the world. #aidsky

It's hard to believe this is happening. The Dartington Trust, here in South Devon, is behaving like Donald Trump: it seems to have no conception of the value it is destroying. This is its latest act of mindless vandalism. What the hell is going on? www.agroforestry.co.uk/save-darting...

While statements are made in this chamber, civilians remain unseen, unprotected, bombed, besieged, raped, displaced, deprived of food, of medical care, of dignity.

Behind the scenes in #SouthSudan: Our teams are unloading cargo coming from Juba to support operations in the remote area of Mayom. We opened an emergency response in Bouth to respond to the heavy escalation of #cholera cases in an area where no other health actors are present. #MedSky

#Afghanistan: One child has died from measles each day in Afghanistan in 2025, according to data we collected at three hospitals where we work. See all the data and get the whole story about this alarming surge in cases: www.msf.org/msf-records-...

#Gaza: Israeli authorities have instrumentalized humanitarian needs by using aid as a bargaining chip in ceasefire negotiations as people’s electricity supply has been cut off and aid has been blocked from entering Gaza. www.doctorswithoutborders.org/latest/israe...

The Civil Court of Salerno has confirmed the suspension of the 60-day administrative detention imposed on 26 August 2024 on the Geo Barents, the search and rescue vessel operated by @msf.ca searchandrescue.msf.org/news/court-o...

I get a lot out of @tgspodcast.bsky.social, especially guests I wouldn't always have looked into of my own volition. But, I hope folk also listen to @natehagens.bsky.social's Franklys. It feels like Nate has been on such a personal journey of discovery too, with which I feel a real kinship.
