In San Diego that’s not the case and it won’t for a very long time. Yes, I also dream about a heavy rail purple line and trolley extensions through uptown. But our best chance at getting all of this is increasing ridership on existing route, especially buses.

I get it, I lived in a lot of different cities outside the US and I almost never took the bus. I found the bus annoying, slow and inconvenient. The difference is: these cities had a ton of rail alternatives and the bus system was designed to get you to the next rail station.
