All of NIH funding to Northwestern University is frozen. This pause includes noncompeting approved funding, new and competing grants with fundable scores. No reimbursements for money already spent have been received since March. This situation is rarely reported so please Please get the word out!

The fantastically successful NIGMS MIRA R35 "expired" on May 17, after the most recent deadline--these removals are the most aggressive attack on American science in the current series of devastating actions 🧪

Probably every single woman in science in the United States under the age of 50 has been positively impacted by the NSF ADVANCE program in some way. As I hear stories of ADVANCE cancellations, it's hard to really fully grasp the tremendous damage the end of that one program is doing. 🧪

A forthcoming policy from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) will target — and at least temporarily stop — funding to laboratories and hospitals outside the United States. https://go.nature.com/4cXQpnA

RFK Jr. ordered the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility in Frederick to stop all research on serious infectious diseases yesterday at 5:00 PM. They study pathogens like Ebola there. You may be familiar with it from The Hot Zone. www.wired.com/story/hhs-ni...

TV watching recommendations The lead story on 60 Minutes tonight is about NIH and concerns about damage done and continuing during the current administration. 1/2

If anyone has had an NIH/NIAID R13 grant awarded since January, please reach out to me. Ours scored well, has been approved by advisory council but is stuck because of the Diversity Statement. I want to know if this roadblock has been successfully circumnavigated by others, and if so, how......

Excitement plus!! The full program is online for the upcoming GRC Salmonella Biology and Pathogenesis meeting. There is still some room in the schedule for short talks, which will be chosen from submitted abstracts. Submit your abstract, if you haven't done so already. www.grc.org/salmonella-b...

Comments regarding NIH announcing what was already obvious regarding diversity considerations... www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

14 pages of terminated NIH grants--everyone should read through the list. The sweep is VERY broad, including "The Impact of the Herpes Zoster Vaccine on Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus" & "Mitochondrial-based Determinants of Sex Differences in Acute Kidney Injury"🧪 1/n taggs.hhs.gov/Content/Data...

I got the news this morning on two COVID related grants that were being terminated because its no longer seen as a research priority by Health and Human Services. My people have been given their notice. I have no words to express my feelings. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

I bought a Tesla because it was fast like a rocket ship. But now every time I drive it, I feel like a rolling billboard for a man dismantling our government and hurting people. So Tesla, you’re fired! New ride coming soon.

We have some quick and easy advice for those attempting to cut wasteful government spending: Stop letting Donald Trump make the government pay his own resorts so he can golf. www.huffpost.com/entry/donald...

THE MOST PROMISING TREATMENT TO SAVE MY LIFE IS A VACINE. For those of you that voted for this man- my death is on you. I have fought to stay alive for nearly 6 years only to see the train get derailed now.

Look what's happening at the French Embassy in Washington DC.

📸 No one follows more etiquette rules than the Royal Family—but notice how King Charles didn’t make any smart-ass or demeaning comments about Zelensky’s attire today. Why? Because respect isn’t about clothes—it’s about character. And that’s something money can’t buy.

As of today, at least 73 study sections have not met. If they review 50 applications, plus 30 triaged, 10% funding rate = 8 grants per SS. That's 584 fundable grants on hold. Probably 5000 researchers affected in those teams composed of our best and brightest. SABOTAGE.

In case you were wondering how Fox News is covering the proposed cuts at the NIH:

We are recruiting @ox.ac.uk @dunnschool.bsky.social for a joint project between Kevin Foster's group and mine! Cluster hire of two postdocs interested in: 1) Mucosal immunology and oral vaccine development my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecru... 2) Microbiology my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecru... Please share!

Brian is a talented scientist and thought leader at the University of Kentucky whose research explores the mechanisms underlying Lyme disease, for which new treatments and prevention strategies are badly needed

It’s becoming apparent to me through multiple conversations with people over the last 3 days that NIH funding mechanisms that have not already gone through review and council will be delayed by AT LEAST 6 months.

If the block on the Federal Register isn’t removed in the next few months, I fear a majority of labs will close within a year. This small procedural wrench has the power to kill US science indefinitely, losing an entire generation of discovery and innovation.

Glad to see this post getting some traction, because the Federal Register is the WHOLE ballgame, folks. To drive this point home, a recent EO declares that all posts to FR now must be approved by the White House. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

The Univ of California Office of the President sent this petition out today for any researchers, anywhere in the country to sign. Please take just 1 min to sign it and distribute to other researchers before the hearing on Friday regarding indirects. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
