๐Ÿงช But seriously, this one study has more clear creations of form as a means of 'marking' a medium (in this case, water) than we have for the entirety of the #Neanderthal archaeological record. If they can control the shape enough to make the perfect O, then the other forms may be intentional too?

YES IT IS

๐Ÿ“š โœ’๏ธ Current #Matriarcha status: regaling a lovely elderly lady on the train about all the Early Modern historical cases of gender-bending women sailors, grooms, waiters, soldiers etc and how I am ๐Ÿ’ฏ arguing this was also likely the case in the prehistoric Metal Ages

Tomorrow, my team starts a new project at this great cave site, Arma delle Manie (Liguria, Italy). We're focusing this season on contextualizing the final Mousterian (Neanderthal) levels first excavated in the 60s. Watch this space for updates over the next few weeks! ๐Ÿฆฃ๐Ÿบ

If you fancy coming to the beautiful spot that is @chalkefestival.bsky.social in a few weeks' time for all manner of historical excitements, here are details for the #archaeology events Pete and I are running as "Hearth of Science": www.chalkefestival.com/speakers/hea...

๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ“š Writing #Matriarcha is a strange mix: satisfying intellectual creation, but also being floored when the human side is suddenly somehow present: research ancient catastrophe; look at google maps for landscape; see a video of the bay, where a man teaches a little child to swim... and time folds.

Good to see this. My work was downloaded illegally, I would not have given permission for its use in AI training. (Also, I'm not keen on receiving remuneration for something I never agreed to; I want the companies to be prosecuted, fined and compensation to come that way)

Anyone had experience of their cat eating a Chinese Money Plant? Internet tells me they're non-toxic but also might make pets ill? Photo of the unrepentant furry fool attached ๐Ÿ˜พ

Delighted to come across what I sincerely hope is evidence of a Yorkshire accent amongst the C18th aristocracy ๐Ÿ›๏ธ This noblewoman was one of the Howard family, living just outside of York in the early 1700s
