Zohran Mamdani’s win has inspired over 3400 young people to raise their hands to run for office just since Tuesday. It’s now @runforsomething.net’s biggest candidate recruitment moment since the election. A new generation of leaders is here.

This administration turned out to be every bit the nightmare many of us feared it would be. Even worse. I didn’t think all other institutions would fold so readily.

Spot on. This is the clearest explanation I’ve seen. It ‘s relatable, and humanizes the issue in a way everyone can understand.

Or that the Navy named a ship after Peterson in 1943: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Pet...

Horrific political assassinations took place in America, & we’ve totally erased it from the National Conversation™️ because they happened in the Midwest instead of Manhattan & we’re not a serious country. Incredibly depressing on so many deep, pathetic levels. May their memories be a blessing.

Thinking again about how the media turned Bill Clinton talking to AG Loretta Lynch for 15 minutes into a major scandal for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.

Unprecedented authoritarian attacks on higher education. Every accusation right-wing defenders of academic freedom, campus speech, viewpoint diversity, the marketplace of ideas, & limited government made, over many decades, was a lie & a confession.

Pam Bondi fires two more Jan. 6 prosecutors. This administration is destroying the professional, apolitical federal workforce over Trump‘s hunger for revenge and disinformation about an imaginary deep state. www.nbcnews.com/politics/jus...

It’s every parent’s nightmare, isn’t it? you check your child’s bulletproof backpack and find a picture book about gay penguins

Tapper writes this without acknowledging that Milk himself served in the US Navy during the Korean War, or that Milk was assassinated while serving honorably in public office

I wrote about the Supreme Court’s dramatic weakening of checks on presidential power in the birthright citizenship case. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This 100%. As a UVA faculty member, I fear President Ryan's resignation will not stop them from coming after UVA.

OK, now there's a proper write-up: CDC Pulled Its Own Thimerosal Report, So We're Publishing It. The CDC posted credible reviews on thimerosal and the MMRV vaccine. The thimerosal report has since been taken down. infoepi.substack.com/p/cdc-pulle...

I was adopted via closed adoption, born in North Carolina. It was closed so I have no knowledge of or access to my biological mother’s details. It also means my biological mother isn’t on my birth certificate. So if birthright citizenship becomes a patchwork right, what’s someone like me to do?

They are MTV Cribs'ing concentration camps.

I'm old enough to remember when any random person posting on social media that a university employee should be fired over anything related to their views was a national crisis, the end of free speech, an American version of China's Cultural Revolution (which killed hundreds of thousands of people).

It’s pretty startling that it’s become a feature of the Roberts Court that they save the most outrageous and infuriating usurpations of the Constitution for the last day they are in session and then disappear for months onto the planes and boats of the billionaire friends safe from public scrutiny.

Call your senators and your rep. This is insane.

It’s very important to understand the context here, which is that Youngkin has stacked all the commonwealth’s board of visitors with incurious sycophants who care nothing for their schools and believe their job - they will gladly state - is to enforce the whims of Republican politicians

We are discovering what happens when a society decides to give the absolute dumbest people imaginable way too much power.

Let’s remember a hero:

a crowd has gathered at the UVA rotunda in response to the forced resignation of president jim ryan

Mark and Melissa lie peacefully at the center of our state and our hearts today. Their memorial, guarded by service dogs and men and women in uniform, casts a momentary shadow over L'Étoile du Nord as we honor their life’s work to make Minnesota shine brighter for all.

This is naked authoritarianism. It is exactly what happened in Turkey. There is nothing to stop this regime from demanding that faculty be purged too. Everyone must stand up and push back. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/u...

Really need to stress this bc I am seeing people spiral out with all kinds of scenarios which will not apply unless this is still law when kids who are now 4 months of age are much older--and there are a lot of talented people getting started today in working very hard to be sure that it won't be

WHY WE LOOK? Because a Photo Gone Wrong in the Uffizi Fuels Selfie Worries in Europe’s Museums. The damage to a centuries-old painting in the Italian museum was just one of many tourist incidents raising ire on the continent. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/26/w...

My statement on this morning’s ruling by the Supreme Court.

Absolutely overwhelming doomscrolling potential today. I’m not saying we can ignore it all, but please find ways to take care of yourselves too, y’all. Marathon not a sprint.

The difference between this and Nazi propaganda against Jews is that this is AI-generated.

"That view is now accepted by a great many Americans . . ." It is the law. Same-sex marriage is legal in the United States. It's not a "view" that is "accepted" by many people. It is a description of legal reality in the US (for now).

the president does not actually have the power to fire a university president or a museum director, but if elites simply roll over under pressure, then effectively he does

🚨NEW: The Trump admin moves to terminate Temporary Protected Status for HALF A MILLION Haitians, claiming despite all reality that Haiti is a safe country to return to — even though large portions of the country are ruled by vicious gangs and civil governance has collapsed.

Reminder: The man currently telling us "what should be legal" is a 34-count convicted felon.

If the Supreme Court thinks universal injunctions are unconstitutional, to wait until *now* to say that, in this of all cases, with this of all presidents, is a devastating indictment of both its impartiality and its prudence.

Smart move, and not surprising; the litigators surely knew this was an option and had the amended complaint ready to go.

Right--I should have been more clear about this. To my understanding it's about state of residence, not state of birth. This is just one more way that immigrants will feel unwelcome in red states.

this court says that allowing EPA to regulate carbon emissions is a "major question" that demands congressional debate. but allowing the president to, with a flick of the wrist, end a straightforward constitutional right is something that must be allowed to stand?

A minority of voters elected the presidents and the senators that confirmed 5/9 judges currently on the Supreme Court. That group — all nominated by Republican presidents — is now deciding cases disproportionately in favor of a Republican Executive overstepping his constitutional powers. Seems bad!

Trump: "If you look at the end of the Civil War -- the 1800s, it was a very turbulent time. If you take the end day -- was it 1869? Or whatever."

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?

looking forward to some parents suing to demand segregated schools because integration violates their religious beliefs

#SCOTUS has announced that it will hand down orders both next Monday *and* Thursday. Monday is the "regular" Order List from yesterday's Conference (so grants and denials of new cases). Thursday will be the "clean-up" list, which could also have quietly important summary rulings/separate opinions.
