Personally I think that having some of the most powerful institutions in American life publicly identify themselves as supporters of LGBT equality was (and is) a good thing, and that their retreat from that is quite bad.

New-ish paper: Optimal and efficient two-qubit gate synthesis for heterogeneous instruction sets. arxiv.org/abs/2505.00543 (Sorry, forgot to hype this earlier) The monodromy polytope is a tool to determine elements of SU(4) reachable via a given sequence of 2-qubit gates interspersed with SU(2).

I'll just take this moment to point out that the US Institute of Peace, just a few weeks ago, contained one of the finest concentrations of US expertise on India and Pakistan, and crisis management in South Asia.

I still like my suggested solution for user verification better github.com/bluesky-soci... more granular and scalable. Feels more in the spirit of everything else atproto

Costco is a really popular subject for business-success case studies but I feel like business guys kinda lose interest when the upshot of the study is like "just operate with scrupulous integrity in all facets and levels of your business for four decades" and not some easy-to-fix gimmick

I don't understand why the judges in all the cases against DOGE's actions at various agencies don't put Musk and Kliger and everyone else under oath, demand they produce an org chart, employment agreements, etc etc. It's completely opaque and the judiciary is sleepwalking around the critical Qs.

pretty much everything that has come out about Elon Musk makes Walter Isaacson look like a really shitty biographer.

Excited to share our first major result from our IARPA Entangled Logical Qubits team! arxiv.org/abs/2504.07258 @benbrown.bsky.social @universal-soup.bsky.social @evanhockings.bsky.social @georgianixon.bsky.social

I am again calling for the next generation of leadership to be steely-eyed puritans who hate corruption in every form.

To me, this is the easiest layup for DC Democrats. Go to the IRS, chain yourselves there and raise the alarm about this so that USians understand what they are doing.

One thing the Democrats can do (and don't seem to be doing) is coordinate on/publish a 'here is what we we will do to reverse Trump' set of proposed measures. Republicans made it clear that they would overturn JCPOA, damaging its credibility from outset. Dems should do same for the shitty stuff.

Labour's betrayal of trans people - fueled by a wider reactionary movement taking a grip on older people in the UK even on the left - is one of the most disgusting things I've seen in politics from a party that *should* be better.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.
