@lewisgoodall.com @lbc.co.uk Great show as ever and a Doctor Who quote. Sir I salute you that caught me by surprise #doctorwho

Still not sure. Join us from 10.

Well that changes the entire feel of Scottish politics in the long run up to Holyrood elections next year. Labour GAIN in Hamilton. SNP still struggling. Lab down on % in general election but up on 2021. Strong Reform result. Tories absolutely nowhere and supplanted by them.

Not sure 3 hours on LBC tomorrow from 10 is going to be enough

It’s almost like…Musk and Trump’s interests were never aligned.

Things which can be true at once: A) It's entertaining B) It's deeply dysfunctional which the Trump court always was/was always going to be C) This happens when a political project is about vibes/personality cults rather than actual convergent beliefs D) It's pathetic E) They could make up

Within the space of an evening Musk has gone from (just about) an ally of Trump’s to alleging that he’s in the Epstein files and should be impeached. Meanwhile, Steve Bannon suggests Musk should be deported. Just another normal night in Trump’s America.

Elon Musk, who until a matter of days ago was a Trump administration employee, is now alleging that Donald Trump is in the Epstein files.

Populist radical right having a very fractious evening on both sides of the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, Trump and Musk are moving further apart by the day. Trump says Musk has been “wearing thin”.

Remarkable that less than a week ago Zia Yusuf was out on the airwaves, including my Sunday show, batting for Reform. Now he’s resigned as Chairman saying: “I no longer believe working to get a Reform government elected is a good use of my time.”

‘Is it the fact that the victims are Muslim? What’s the difference?’ ‘The PM is willing to talk about one, but not the other.’ @alimilani.bsky.social‬ and @lewisgoodall.com question why Keir Starmer called out Russia’s ‘war crimes’ in Ukraine, but won’t say the same of Israel in Gaza.

'You are exactly the problem here' @lewisgoodall.com says that caller Trevor is not entitled to his parents' house.

We’ve all done it

“If they’d explained everything about Brexit, I’d probably have voted Remain!” @lewisgoodall.com visits The Talbot in Blackpool, the UK’s first Reform pub, where the owner regrets Brexit - but stops short of blaming one of the key figures who sold it to him: Nigel Farage.

Special assignment for me: a night out in Blackpool in Britain's first Reform Pub. The owner told us he'd now vote Remain, if he knew then what he knows now. The story though was the same as everywhere: the most profound rejection of politics itself. youtu.be/4sUKHr9KauA?...

Interesting speech and change of emphasis from Reeves. Getting ahead of criticism on fiscal rules. Tone is now staunchly Brownite rather than Osbornite. Return to Labour emphasis on investment vs cuts. Question is whether that washes when day to day spending is so tight.

"It's going to be 𝘩𝘶𝘨𝘦𝘭𝘺 difficult for a lot of countries." Former Sec. General of NATO, Lord George Robertson, on the challenge of getting the UK to commit 3.5% of GDP to defence. How realistic is it? @maitlis.bsky.social | @lewisgoodall.com

"I wouldn't trust you if you said the Sun was going to shine tomorrow." "If Reform said it would, I'd trust them." Caller John explains the depth of his trust in Nigel Farage to @lewisgoodall.com.

"It's nonsensical, it's about a third of the entire pay bill of the civil service" @fdagensec.bsky.social talks to @lewisgoodall.com about Reform's claim that £7 billion could be saved by cutting DEI initiatives from government.

As I told @lewisgoodall.com, much like the spending rounds for central government, cutting public spending and public services is about political priorities. There are no mythical billions to be saved just by doing things differently.

Im easily confused at the best of times but @lbc.co.uk has definitely confused me today 😂 tuned in at 10pm to listen to @mrjamesob.bsky.social and @lewisgoodall.com is on but the LBC app shows a picture of @nickferrarilbc.bsky.social #WhatAMonday

PM: "We are moving to a war fighting readiness...to deliver peace through strength."

Big moment for Polish and European politics. Hard right Law and Justice Party candidate Karol Nawrocki defeats liberal Tusk backed candidate in presidential election. Will mean domestic paralysis of Tusk govt endures. PiS will hope to return in 2 years. Brussels will be disappointed.

Standing in for the great @mrjamesob.bsky.social all this week on @lbc.co.uk from 10-1. Join us! Very newsy day...

AP reporting Red Cross hospital in Gaza saying at least 21 people killed and another 175 injured in Gaza as they went to receive aid from an Israeli-backed foundation.

Have loved this season of Doctor Who but that finale was utterly bizarre.

“Imagine if it had been tipped in a river, who knows how many could’ve died? That’s the truly shocking part.” Ex-Home Sec. Amber Rudd on the carelessness of the Skripal Novichok attack and its potential for mass casualties. @lewisgoodall.com | @crisisroompod.bsky.social

Like old times…it’s a Newsnight kind of night Will be on from 1030- BBC2

"Musk is gone - after saving only a tiny fraction of his projected $2 trillion and using a sledgehammer to destroy government programs." After five months of bureaucratic grind, Elon's heading back to California to tend to Tesla’s bruised brand... @jonsopel1.bsky.social | @lewisgoodall.com

This really is a thoughtful and nuanced exposition of where we find ourselves, and the challenges we face.

A must read.

The Trump administration is stepping up its attacks on American universities. The State Dept has now suspended interviews for all foreign students applying for study visas while it sets up procedures to review their social media posts. They say this is to fight anti-Semitism.

FWIW, IMO Lewis Goodall writes some of the best and most thoughtful stuff on UK issues.

Spot on @lewisgoodall.com the irony is we’ve got an indirect form of racial profiling from the police in #Liverpool but die to the evolving nature of media and misinformation what else could have been done?
