I just made the mistake of reading the comments on this article. Unbelievable how many people are just clueless of the mess Brexit left Gibraltar in

Unlikely a majority. but .. They are polling 2nd to Plaid Cymru but Wales has proportional representation so if they are at 25% they will get around 25% of the seats in theory

Exactly. Nigel Farage doesn’t understand the generational trauma that still exists in our communities from pit accidents, deaths, the illness & the deprivation that followed, which like many of UKs industrial regions, has never been addressed. Sadly it’s these communities that are ripe for Farage

I agree with that (although some may disagree with the nice bit 😊). However from working with groups like the 3 Million and In Limbo Project, many would love to have physical proof of their status. They campaigned for it but I’m admit it could also be used inappropriately & cause discrimination.

My experience is that many progressive are instinctively supportive of ID cards. I hope people consider for a moment how this technology is likely to be used against immigrants and ethnic minority Brits before they support this.

I agree in Brexit Britain this could go horribly wrong, however as a Brit immigrant in Spain/EU we have biometric cards & it helps to have physical proof of status - fellow EU migrants do want similar in UK but, everyone has ID cards here, so it’s culturally different & accepted as norm. A tough one

She has had to do that, they go back and forth but Margot doesn’t want to live in the UK. She spent decades in Spain. Her friends & community are there.

I wrote an article about Vanessa and her mum in Sept 2022. Two and a half years on she is still fighting for her mum to be able to continue living in Spain. You can’t but admire here determination & grit.
