The Labour councillor is backing it and spending so much time patiently explaining why it’s a good thing. The Tory councillor is being a prick. Quelle surprise.

Yeah, we’re getting a lot of “it’s just not the right place for them” bulldust.

TLDR: Some people are petty fuckers who can't wait to pull up the ladder.

The local shops and cafes will do well out of the increased population. We've got good schools too.
But the objections on social media are nothing to do with architecture. It's sheer snobbery and NIMBYism. They don't want to share the nice things with people with lower incomes.

And I'll admit that the proposed new social housing looks a bit ugly on the architect's drawing - nothing that can't be solved with a bigger windows, some nice planting. It will be in walking distance of the station meaning the residents can get into Leeds and Bradford in 20 mins.

But those houses (for the most part) went into private ownership under the Right to Buy scheme. And they are great houses - well built, big gardens. A 3-bed semi is on the market for £300k (in Leeds).

The irony being that a lot of the houses they are living in were council houses back in the day. My mum grew up in one of them and remembers how everyone thought their street was rough because it housed "big families". Mum is one of 7 kids.
