Not nothing exactly... you get a dose of marketing-based shame that you aren't working hard enough to be able to afford the good soma yourself. If you want to be one of the cool kids, you need to spend your own money on it...

And I discovered to my delight that protesting is cathartic and I've met some amazing folks at the same time. 10/10, definitely recommend.

A couple months ago I was having dinner with a friend and said out loud "I'm not sure I feel safe going to protests..." my kind friend completely sympathized... but I felt like a coward and betrayer, not using my relative privilege to at least show up.

What we are seeing is very clear video of things like a US Senator being forced to his knees for trying to ask a question. And we're being asked to ignore what our eyes and ears see in that video in favor of pretending his treatment was reasonable.

Anybody else think being beaten to the point of needing hospitalization is a ridiculous overreaction to being spit at? And by the way, I'm not seeing video of that, either. It would seem weird if the right wasn't proving constantly and blatantly that reality has no place in their narrative.

I have to start by saying that Indiana 5050 one is nonviolent and we do not expect any problems this weekend. That said our official position is stay standing. Standing gives you mobility in the event that you need it and it makes things safer for protesters.

If we want a world of kindness, mutual aid, connection, and sustainable abundance, we need to build those things. We can and should remove from power those breaking the law and kidnapping people from our streets, but that will not be accomplished through violence against people.

The system of power being measured in how many people you're allowed to hurt won't be disassembled by movements focused on expressing their dominance through violence.

(And before you ask why I'm in favor of murderers and rapists being allowed to hurt others, I'll point out that's a false choice. People can be sequestered without the fundamental cruelty inherent in our current system.)

What if we don't want the cruelest people to be the ones in charge? What if we believe empathy and human connection are fundamental to our vision of the world? What would resistance look like if we refused to violate those principles in the name of "victory"?
