When cities offer "Road Closure" or car-free streets as a one-day treat do city leaders ever think to offer that treat all the time? People are speaking with their feet. Their feet are saying, "enough with every street throughout our city being a playground for people in cars. We want this too!"

Being more mad online than the next guy will not help anything right now

Randy Foster has worked at New Seasons for 19 years. At 1:30pm today mgmt fired him for “violating Oregon break laws.” His infraction, helping a blind coworker close out his till while on lunch break. By 3:15 his coworkers walked out the Arbor Lodge store demanding reinstatement.

It isn't about finding 'replacements' for Gaiman and other creatives that get exposed for their monstrous bullshit. It's about pulling away from idolatry. If work resonates with you, that's fine. It does not connect you to the creative in a way that demands blind fealty.

there are cathedrals everywhere for those with the eyes to see

after days of grifters and con men at CES we stumbled upon the booth for VLC. they were all dressed as wizards and told us, "we have nothing to sell, we just decided to show up". i told them I'd been using their software to pirate media for 15 years and they said "keep doing that"

“If we remove on-street parking, all of our customers will go away.”

Cannot believe we let this happen. WTAF

In 2009, at the height of the financial crisis, Obama met with bank CEOs and told them his administration was “the only thing between you and the pitchforks." For too many years, that’s how the Democratic Party has seen itself in relation to industry. But it’s time to join the pitchforks.

This video is for Doug Ford, and all those in my replies saying bike lanes "stop emergency vehicles from getting to their destination". They *allow* emergency vehicles to get to their destination, as seen here on Adelaide. They were designed with emergency services in mind.

Because these happen off of public roadways, none of these deaths are included in FARS (Fatality Analysis Reporting System) and are often not included in local crash data. Every driving trip poses a risk, some vehicles pose higher risk than others.

#pdx New Seasons strike today.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing. They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays. The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k. www.businessinsider.com/denver-basic...

America is a nation with a history of maniacs, from its very beginning, who have looked at something they haven't liked and fought against it. Over long, long odds and fought and won and fought more.

How was your day honey did you distill the zeitgeist into any droll quips

NEW: Swiss voters have rejected a $5.6 billion plan to expand highways. The plan's proponents claimed it would relieve congestion, but voters realized that wasn't true. www.swissinfo.ch/eng/swiss-po...

"Why did it get so expensive to live in Oregon?" Chart in the new report from the state's affordable housing agency captures it www.oregon.gov/ohcs/about-u...

Dear liberals, if you want Republicans to accept that trans people are normal, you will have to treat trans people normally

Inevitability isn’t inevitable. We need to celebrate and build on every victory.

The Democrats blaming "identity politics" are, I think, trying to avoid hard conversations about the party's failures on economic and urban policy

My biggest pet peeve about public transit policy is when its only purpose is seen as commuting to work. A good transit system is there to support all kinds of trips at all times of the day, not only office commutes. Groceries, football games, coffee shop trips, concerts, etc.

About 20 years ago, I was in a grad school class where we had a discussion with a Parisian city planner. Bikeshare in Paris had just launched. He said, "Parisians will never give up their cars." When I start getting frustrated about progress, I think of that conversation.
