Your job is literally to work with people with compromised immune systems, or who already have several debilitating disabilities who don't need additional ones courtesy of long covid.
On top of that, we're in an administration encouraging the spread of so many diseases.

The only reason JD Vance and any like him are here is because there's not many of their favorite harassment targets on twitter, and zero on truth social.
And they won't be on here for long if people don't engage with their hatred and vitriol.

like i can't write, or do much of anything, basically unless this eventually improves i'm pretty much incapable of being a writer or artist anymore, all because people think it's no big deal to spread covid.
And kids are exposed to this, we don't know how that will effect their futures.

glad it was of use!
also upon rereading i'm not sure if it was clear that the one talking about sign language and seperating worthy and unworthy wasn't the MC himself as he was still a baby on introduction but yea

coming back to the thread with the realization it may even be intentionally uncomfortable as a "wow, it's weird society is like this" it's jsut overwhelming and i'm still dealing with long covid and yea

i might be overthinking it and i don't mean any ill-will to the writer, it may all be very unintentional and well meaning, it jsut wasn't landing great for me. they seem to have a genuine passion for writing so i hope they continued/continue to enjoy refining it

the pairing of extra intelligent dogs (this is commented on even by the character dividing worthy and unworthy disabled children) with someone who was at risk of being dehumanized and considered unintelligent creates a sense that the dogs are raised up and the kid lowered down to be on equal level

and while a kinship wouldn't be totally avoidable between the MC and his dog, we all love our pets, the extra details that thematically link him to one of the puppies, one that died in particular, is a little discomforting.

which trust me i know it's not uncommon for one member of a minority to think they're better than another, the idea "we're disabled but not like them" definitely happens but this is a story about almost "magical" dogs so making this character so unpleasant on introduction seems a bit much

since he is the MC of a mystery, it is said he isn't "stupid" they use other words but the character ranting about the need for sign language seems perfectly ok with children who actually have trouble learning being abandoned and mistreated, just not the more intelligent disabled children

it's long, very long, and so heavily detailed, it also uses the language of the time which understandable but can be rough to read so it's fair but worth knowing. as for how the nonverbal MC is treated, when we finally meet him, i was kinda right on both possibilities.

There's potential tracking of how many disabled people who aren't "true Americans" as is the eugenics line they're trying to push. And that's not even getting into using that aggregate "not so anonymous" data to find pregnant people trying to cross state lines to get an abortion.
