Wild Birds Unlimited sells something called a squirrel baffle that goes on the birdfeeder's pole. I've had one on my feeders for years and get a kick out of watching the squirrels try and fail to reach the feeders.

There have also been cases where placebo-controlled tests get shut down early because the results show the tested drug is so clearly effective that it would be unethical not to give it to the placebo group as well.

The part of the decision talking about "the deference owed to the executive branch in the conduct of foreign affairs" is a giant hole for the administration to drive a truck through and say "Oops, we tried, but couldn't get it done within the scope of our current foreign policy in that area."

That's not to mention the loss of scientific expertise, both in government and at universities. All the innovators will go elsewhere. Faculty and recruitment at universities and colleges will suffer, cascading throughout our culture and economy.
