Crossed the Canadian-US border in the middle of the day on a Thursday a few weeks ago. Should have been a 10-20 minute wait, especially with trucks. Instead, there was not a single other vehicle. That also felt very eerie.

Yes, he does. My sister’s traditionally been quiet about politics knowing we’re a divided family. But no more! She’s vocal about all the damage being done. I’m proud of her in the midst of all she’s handling (my husband died 14 yrs ago from head & neck cancer so I know her situation too well).

A friend just posted about all the good things DEI does. My response was “cueing all the middle-aged white dudes whose privilege is at risk to tell you this is wrong. In 3, 2, and…” Within minutes three of the above told her she’s wrong and if she really understood DEI she’d be upset by it. 🤦♀️

My brother-in-law is desperate for a clinical trial for Glioblastoma. There was hope for one to be available in March. Now, probably not. Yet my brother, who voted for this, will still offer his prayers and not understand his direct role in my BIL’s pain and suffering. I’m sorry about your husband.

It’s been the plan since Nixon. Creating fear, using repeated lies, playing the victim (the media lies to you, etc), and defunding/vilifying education so no one knows better. And those who know better are the hated “elites.” I too don’t understand why folks allow themselves to be used like this.

It’s like you are your own parody account, @nytimes.com. No mention of illegality or causing a constitutional crisis.

Beautiful! Here are my two at my son’s wedding in ‘22. They lost their dad 14 years ago and I’m so glad they’ve had each other.

My obstetrician visited us the day after our daughter was born. She asked if we planned to have more kids. We said no, one of each, we’re good. Without missing a beat, she took a business card from her pocket, handed it to husband and said, “here’s the number to the vasectomy clinic. Your turn.”

I don’t understand how any practicing Catholic can be anything other than critical. Then again, I have nuns in my family that have proudly voted for him. I’ll never get it.

Laws vary by state as to whether surviving spouses inherit debt, so check with an attorney.
comment in response to

Surviving spouses are not always responsible for deceased partner’s medical debts. You should always check w/a lawyer before paying anything. Once you pay even a small bill, you’ve made yourself responsible. Also, don’t co-sign any payment agreements w/a sick spouse just in case the worst happens.

Old enough to remember when this originally aired! I, like many others, stopped what I was doing and had a much needed laugh. Thanks for posting!

He’d be alive today if Gardasil had been available to us as kids. I’ll never stop telling of the efficacy of vaccines, especially this one. To know he was lost to something horrible that’s now preventable and that some will choose to condemn their children to this fate. I’ll never understand.

My husband Kevin died in 2010 after 2.5 year battle with squamous cell carcinoma head and neck cancer. First round in 2008 just after the discovery of the connection to HPV made by Dr Gillison at OSU. We got our son vaccinated off-label as Gardasil hadn’t yet been approved for boys and he was 16.

My book, I Can’t Remember if I Cried: Rock Widows on Life, Love, and Legacy, was pubbed back in June and recently named one if Library Journal’s Top Books of 2024. I have appearances at Boswell Bookshop in Milwaukee on 2/18 and Anderson’s Books in Naperville on 2/19. See you there!

Yes, and also, defund and vilify education so no one who might do anything about this actually understands it or cares about it.

My late husband died of head and neck cancer, which wouldn’t have happened had he been able to get the Gardasil vaccine as a teen. H&N cancers are on the rise and very much preventable. Please get boys vaccinated too!

Conservatives have defunded education for 50 years and told people education is bad (only for “elites.” They now push vouchers (another name for defunding public education. All to keep the electorate misinformed and uninformed. Gotta say, they’ve played the long game on this one.

We got rid of it in Michigan. Though the GOP is back in power in the statehouse and I’m sure they’ll try some shenanigans to attempt to bring it back.

My book, I Can’t Remember if I Cried: Rock Widows on Life, Love, and Legacy, which profiles 14 widows of my favorite musicians and what they taught me about grief, was listed as a top nonfiction book of 2024 by Library Journal!

Yes! My husband died of HPV positive head and neck cancer. A marathon runner who became quadriplegic. It is awful and completely preventable with the vaccine.
comment in response to

And please get your boys vaccinated with the HPV vaccine (Gardasil) as well. Head and Neck cancers are also increasing in young men as a result of HPV and that is totally preventable with the vaccine. My husband died of squamous cell carcinoma and no one should go through what he experienced.

They did this to punish Biden, knowing it could have terrible consequences. And it did. Now these same people, including the man quoted in this story, are begging Biden to do something before he leaves and Mike Huckabee comes in as Ambassador. A man who believes Palestine doesn’t exist.

Even my smart, educated, Dem-voting daughter who recently lost her tech start-up job, didn’t realize she was on ACA. She thought she bought insurance directly from Aetna. I had to break the news & now she’s terrified (and still angry from 11/5). Dems need “sorry, not sorry” messaging around this!

I’ve had 3 meetings with my financial planner since the election. I have a modest account and am close to retirement. No time to make up a significant loss. He keeps saying it’ll all be fine. Finally got him to do as I say and protect me. I’ll forego gains to avoid a loss I’m certain is coming.
