The reason we can’t afford social services is because we give the lion’s share of our money to either actual military to beat up on people abroad, or paramilitary forces to beat up on people at home.
We should stop doing that.

Everybody matters. Everybody matters. But if you are trying to give people something they can do to have a sense of purpose, if they lack one, I don’t think the answer is “labor force participation” in and of itself. The answer is “being of service,” which takes many forms.

Barber brings up Sen. Joni Ernst’s controversial quip about “we’re all going to die,” and her follow up video in which she mentioned Jesus.
Barber: “She said something about wanting to introduce people to Jesus. Well, let me introduce you to Jesus: the Jesus I know never charged a leper a co-pay.”

Rev. William Barber: “A budget is a moral document. We don't come here today as Republicans or Democrats. We come here because some things are not about left versus right, but about right versus wrong.”
Adds: “They don't want us to talk about the particular people who will die.”

I love their selection! I ordered maybe a half-dozen varieties several years ago and the only reasons I haven’t bought more is that the ones I have are still germinating and I’m only planting for one. I just put Whippoorwill peas and Jack Kelly butterbeans in the ground this morning. 🌱

This is the first year it's had these clusters of blossoms so I don't know if it will look quite like this all summer, but it is a continually-blooming rose.

More Everything Forever by @adambecker.bsky.social, after I kept seeing it recommended on my timeline (and read a couple of excellent reviews). It's slow going, though, because my blood pressure keeps going up after only a few pages.
