Go to the protest late and I went home to read a democratic Senator was assassinated.
I'm thinking if I want to continue to document protests, I need better protection.

laughing with their signs. No aggression. I continued to look for a parking spot in downtown on a Saturday when I saw the cop cars start moving in towards the protest. I didn't have the level of protection required if they shot tear gas or rubber bullets so I decided I wasn't properly prepared to

Look for safe zones and exits. DO NOT ENGAGE with rioters/counter protestors/arguments. Keep distance from law enforcement because that is for our safety and theirs.
Remember, you are there to document. Once you start acting like one in the crowd you are no longer the media.
