If you would like to watch the real race at Monaco, qualifying is on right now

Sen Ron Wyden (D-OR) says he has recordings of business associates of President Trump’s pick to lead the IRS, Billy Long, saying they expect to get favors from him once he is in office thehill.com/business/530...

Wow its almost as if politicians should lead on important policies instead of just trying to chase after polling

Kara Swisher is a fraud, who engages in the same behavior she claims to criticize, but only seems to criticize once it's already become obvious that they've done bad things.

it is pretty interesting to see the contrast with the “Inflation Reduction Act” which the NYT did not refer to by name in the headlines as it was going through Congress

If you don't believe in the Overton window, watch the press act as if record-high, business-busting tariffs with no relief for small businesses are a concession.

Lol

this is not an exaggeration

30% is an enormously high tariff!

Old enough to remember when Republicans claimed they wanted a government so small you could drown it in a bathtub and would have thrown down at the idea of a national security state controlled by mysterious bureaucrats who answer to a private citizen.

If I may, setting aside any other commentary on the below: My pet theory is that the best step toward Making America Film Again would be to build some fucking dense housing in Los Angeles, so all the crew talent isn’t compelled to either seek maximum dollar, move away, or live in a box.

What David Shor and his allies get wrong is that you don't message toward what has most salience and does best on issue surveys. You message toward what drives maximum engagement and mobilizes the most passionate negative polarization against your opponent.

Hey speaking of data how have the Democrats been doing overall since David Shor became a big-deal strategist for them

What happened with Polygon today is so fucked. Vox Media has made some atrocious decisions in my six years here but this is really something else. And to do this in the middle of us bargaining a new union contract, where they scold us for asking for better protections, is just unconscionable.

Life comes at you fast

the democratic party's 2024 immigration message from biden and harris was "we're as tough as the republicans, just a little nicer." it was an unmitigated failure and as long as the democrats embrace gop lite on immigration (and so much more), they will fail.

reporting on this has really got to get better about communicating the magnitude of the breach here. if you read the nyt article with minimal context, you would have no sense that this was watergate-level impeachable misconduct

Matt Yglesias's flitting about embracing rightwing ideas shows that he completely misses Weber's point that he claims to embody.

Cuomo also intentionally kept Republicans in the majority of state legislature to hobble progress.

Kee Mao at a Thai place next to my second post college apartment called "Land of Smile"

Pledging to defend the Constitution right before the country you were about to become a citizen of unconstitutionally detains you

In THIS administration we value WARFIGHTERS who WARFIGHT the enemy and if you’re not WARFIGHTING the enemy to DEATH we don’t want you in the DEPARTMENT OF WARFIGHTING, take your “logistics” and “intelligence” BULLSHIT somewhere else this place is for WARFIGHTING WARFIGHTERS WHO WARFIGHT. GRRR!

Kind of, mostly they're dilettantes. They've spend time at DC institutions and maybe even a few big national campaign hqs. But the lot of them have knocked fewer doors combined than most organizers have in a week.

“Mr. Prada’s disappearance has created concerns that more immigrants have been deported to El Salvador than previously known. It also raises the question of whether some deportees may have been sent to other countries with no record of it.” www.nytimes.com/2025/04/22/u...

apparently these two are quite famous for this

I know he should be replaced, but I actually hope drunk text McGee stays in office as it hurts the Cheeto with the Military and makes a self-coup harder.

"Today’s builders of Babel tell us that there is no room for losers, and that those who fall along the way are losers. Theirs is the construction site of hell." [Pope Francis, 18 April 2025]

He was good at poping. A rare quality among senior catholics, but one I hope they can find again.

Personally, I think it should be front page news for at least a month if a sitting US President is using falsified evidence to try and deny due process to a man who has committed no crime, but that’s just me
