#NowSpinning The Beach Boys - Surf's Up (1971) It's fitting that their most mature album features little Brian involvement, but his presence and influence is inescapable. Him not performing the title track* is unfortunate, but, thankfully the demos are out there. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity

#NowSpinning The Beach Boys - Love You (1977) I suppose the simple #surfrock era stuff is quite an unfitting tribute to Brian. I've seen lots of (well deserved) Pet Sounds love, but this silly slice of #psychedelic #sunshinepop was marketed as "Brian's Back!" #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity

#NowSpinning The Beach Boys - s/t (1970) This cheapo Pickwick comp is fairly inessential and concentrates on the #surfrock era including their great cover of Miserlou. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning The Beach Boys - Shut Down Volume 2 (1964) The Boys are just churning out albums at this point, filling up a full album with their harmony heightened hot rod hits and #surfrock smashes. Fun, Fun, Fun & Why Do Fools Fall In Love are the hits. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Shut Down (1963) Capitol Records wanted to cash in on the #surfrock car music trend and The Beach Boys' success with this comp. The title track & 409 by Brian Wilson & the family plus songs by The Cheers*, The Superstocks**, and The Piltdown Men***. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity

@vicmmic.bsky.social Caught these big boys chomping Cheetos.

Pulling stuff for a Beach Boys marathon starting tomorrow. The question was always: Stones or Beatles? My mom was a Beatles person, my dad was a Stones person, but I was a Beach Boys person... from the early stuff all the way to the end. RIP Brian Wilson

Some funky old electronics at the Savers today. Also catch & release on a nice stack of Jimmy Smith LPs (Jimmy & Wes!), a few Lionel Hamptons, and other various jazz. I almost bought that live Marvelettes album, but they're charging $2.99 now & I just can't do it

I wonder how Jim Amendments is feeling right now seeing those pics of the National Guard all huddled together sleeping on the floors of Federal buildings.

I think I saw this on the cover of some antifolk album circa 2003.

#NowSpinning Roni Griffith - Desire The German pressing of this Bobby "O" Orlando produced #newwave #Hi-NRG #disco album by a former Kid Creole & His Coconuts member. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Gianna Nannini - Puzzle (1984) Synth-filled #newwave #Italopop from this singer who gained quite a following in Germany. In fact, this is a German pressing of the album. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Renato Zero - Zerolandia (1978) Interesting, lightweight, fun Italian #disco #glamrock. A Roman Bowie meets Mott The Hoople? Marco Bolani and T-Rex? #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Timbiriche - La Banda Timbiriche (1982) Kiddie #bubblegum pop with a #newwave twist from CDMX that launched many careers including Paulina Rubio and, a few years later, Thalía. I believe they started as a musical educational program. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Pipsqueak - Fowl Hymns (2009) One last one from Washington state with this Seattle acoustic #punk #folkpunk outsider country act. Acoustic guitar + cello. Busker music. I dig it. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning The Electric Kisses - s/t (2006) Catchy Seattle #punk with #powerpop hooks produced by Popllama boss Conrad Uno at his Egg Studio. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Fitz of Depression - Let's Give It A Twist (1994) Sloppy, catchy #punk in the melodic #hardcore vein from this Olympia, WA band. Produced/engineered by Calvin Johnson & the great Jack Endino at Dub Narcotic. On K Records, natch. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning The Fabulous Wailers - s/t (1959) The Tacoma, WA #garagerock greats kick off their career with this slice of #surf infused #fratrock rave ups. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

[DJ Khalid voice] And anutha one!

#NowSpinning Sussman Lawrence - Pop City (1984) This ambitious sophomore album by the Minnesota band is a 2xLP affair filled to the brim with more of the great #powerpop showcased on their debut. Himmelman went on to record a few solo #newwave LPs & kids albums. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity

#NowSpinning Sussman Lawrence - Hail To The Modern Hero (1979) Top notch Elvis impersonation on this LP, but it's Costello and not Presley. Catchy, quirky #newwave #powerpop #punk from this group fronted by Peter Himmelman. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Scott Jones - Solo (1981) This Twin Cities keyboard player/arranger plays all the instruments on this, his third album of nicely produced pop piano rock. His first is great outsider folk & #psychedelic pop, but he gets more conventional as he continues #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity

#NowSpinning Prince - Raspberry Bererlt b/w She's Always In My Hair (1985) Extended "New Mix" versions of these two Paisley Park hits. I probably should have played this on his birthday yesterday, but it'll kick off a short MLPS set instead. #NowSpinning #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning The Impacts - Wipe Out! (1963) High quality #surfrock featuring guitar by legendary #psychedelic burnout surfer/musician Merrell Fankhauser before the Kentuckian caught the Aloha Spirit and moved to Hawai'i. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Freakout Guitars - Freakout!! The Great New Guitar Sounds (1968) This slab of groovy instrumental #psychedelic #surfrock exploitation has all the hallmarks of a Jerry Kole joint, but I can't find any evidence that he recorded this one. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Nightmare Alley - Moose And Squirrel Must Die (1982) Oddball #garagerock with #punk attitude from Belleville in upstate NY. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Todd Hobin Band - s/t (1978) Melodic #AOR with some groovy country moves, hard rock crunch, and '70s #powerpop hooks from Syracuse. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

Digging through some stuff and found these. Remember these old RSD totes? These two were my favorites.

A story in two parts:

#NowSpinning Urban Guerrillas - Attack of the Pink Heat Seeking Moisture Missiles (1985) Minimalist Minneapolis, Minnesota #postpunk with dashes of #funk and #folkrock. Interesting takes on The Beat Goes On & Knockin' On Heaven's Door. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Thundermug - Ta-Daa!! (1975) Boogie filled hard rock and #glam from this London, Ontario group. This is the superior US press which swaps out two shitty ballads for much better tracks. Americans know Banga Banga Humpa Humpa is a hit. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Jenny Darren - Queen Of Fools (1978) Pleasant pop rock from this UK singer who led the band The Second City Sound. Opens with the original version of Heartbreaker, which was a hit for Pat Benetar. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky

#NowSpinning Joey Stec - s/t (1976) Singer-songwriter #powerpop with #glam touches from/this former member of #psychedelic band The Millenium. He also toured with Blues Magoos and was an in demand session musician. #NowPlaying #vinyl #VinylCommunity #VinylSky
